Cold Email List Response Rates & Best Practices

Let's say I have a list of 100,000 emails that I have compiled manually over a few months. All of the emails are for the owners/partners of businesses in a specific industry we sell to. I'm selling a technology-related solution that 100% of them need (it's actually an industry requirement) and costs around $25 per month (competitive with other solutions), recurring (no contract). As for the emails, I have:

- Ensured the individual is still at the company
- Ensured the domains are valid and all have web sites
- I also have the first name, last name, phone number, business name and mailing address for each email
- I have removed all gmail.com, yahoo.com, ISP addresses, etc.

Question 1: Given the above information, what kind of response and conversion rate could I expect from this list?

Question 2: What are some good resources for best practices of sending emails to a list like this (ESP's to use, etc.).

    The best practice is as follows: If they did not opt-it to your list, and you send them emails, you are spamming. It is as simple as that.

    Dump the list and do it right

    Did they or did they not opt-in to your list. Meaning. Did they specifically state that they want to receive email from you.

    WIIFM (What's in it for Me) is probably always the most important grabber for subject lines.

    This takes practice so you might want to send in batches and develop new catch lines until you come up with one that gets the best results.

    Hard to say what results can be expected though...

    Cold lists are not easily predictable.

      Yes, that's the plan, I actually have 3 different emails bodies, 9 different subjects and 3 different landing page variations we are going to test over the first run of around 25,000 emails. Once we establish the best of each and the best day/time for each, we'll send the rest.

    I know someone that does B2B. He has guys that collect very targeted data for him.

    They initially collect test batches from different sources and he tests them and looks for a min of 50% opens / a min of 5%-10% CTR.

    When we send out campaigns for customers we typically see about a 2% response rate. We usually send out between 25K-300K at a time.

    You might want to see if you can use send receipt on read options. I have this in squirrel mail. Not sure how accurate it is, but it can help to get an idea as to whether anyone is actually reading your emails.
