Random burst of traffic - Any idea what's going on?

I have an email list set up in the weight loss market. I stopped promoting it to focus on other things about a month ago. Last week, subscribers started pouring in out of nowhere, at least 40 per day.

The problem is, I don't know where the traffic is coming from. The email addresses seem normal and are not all from the same email service provider, but it says they are coming from a proxy server.

My open rates are trash now. About 300 subs in the past week and 3 opens.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else? Do I let the list keep growing at this rate or trash it so that I'm not charged extra for a low quality list of subscribers that I didn't even build on my own?

the only indicator that is important to me is -- About 300 subs in the past week and 3 opens. --
that s 1% Open rate, this is not very Good anyways regardless the unknown traffic source.

    Good Luck

Yeah, I'm aware. The question is, do I wait and see how much the list grows or cut my losses and start over? I've pretty much lost control over the traffic flow. The only way I could fix the influx of trash traffic is to change the location of my squeeze page.
