How can I tell if someone has clicked a link in an email I sent?

Hello all,

I have been sending out some marketing emails and I keep an eye on who visits my website through statcounter and I was wondering if there is a way of added some sort of code to the website link in the emails that will show up in my statcounter that it has come from the email?
I know I can make a separate page on my website and use that as the website link in the emails but each email link is to different links on my website so I would have to duplicate my how website and I think there should be a simpler way?

Thanks in advance

I use hashtags for tracking link clicks, it's free, easy to use and can be tracked in Google Analytics If needed. You can even track offline clicks, example someone clicks a link in an offline PDF file and lands on your webpage.

In your case (emails) you could have multiple links in one email and track each individual link/traffic source.

You have two options either use an autoresponder e.g awaber to track who clicked your link from you mail or use URL shortners e.g bit.ly , goo.gl etc. to track clicks.

The easiest way is to use a link shortening service like Bit.ly and you will be able to view detailed analytics.

Using a service like Click Magick would help you to do this.

You can use the autoresponder if integrated with your current ESP or can use the pixel too.

Most autoresponders have click tracking. Otherwise ClickMagic is what I use. For free use Bit.ly or goo.gl
