Mailchimp list subscriber moving/export question?

Hi all! New member of this forum here!

Long story short I've recently found myself doing some freelance work for a friend helping manage their business, specifically the technical side of things (Website management, email marketing, etc.). With regards to email marketing they're currently using a 'Forever free' Mailchimp account, which seems pretty straightforward to use. However I'm currently having trouble moving some subscribers from one list to another? Let me explain:

Currently I have 3 lists set up for 3 different levels of subscriber (for simplicity let's call these levels A, B & C). These subscribers are coming from another website where I have enabled a Mailchimp plugin that allows them to be automatically added to the corresponding list in Mailchimp when they subscribe to the website. Where I'm having issue is if a subscriber to list 'A' upgrades their account via my friends website to a 'B' level membership, Mailchimp does not automatically move said subscriber to the appropriate list. Is this a feature that I have simply overlooked, or is it not available with the free Mailchimp membership? Is it even a feature? For now I've been attempting to manually move these subscribers to the correct list, however the only option I can see is to copy the name and email only, and all other subscriber data will be lost during the move. And I can see no option so far that allows me to export a partial list (i.e. Only export the subscribers I select)? Again, is this a feature or not?

If anyone can offer any advice at all I'd appreciate it greatly. =)

  • Moving a subscriber completely removes their email address from one list and adds it to another. When you move a subscriber, you risk losing that subscriber's activity and purchase history, contact ratings, and other information.

I suggest you to export your list before moving subscribers, to save a backup of their data. However, you cannot import list activity or contact rating to another list.

To move recipients to another list in your account, follow these steps.

    • Navigate to the Lists page.
    • Click the name of the list you want to work with.
    • If you want to work with a specific section of your list,
    • Click Manage contacts, and choose Groups or Segments. Then choose the group or segment you want to work with.
    • Check the box next to each subscriber you want to move, or click the arrow above the checkboxes to Select Visible or, if available, Select All subscribers.
    • Click the Actions drop-down menu, and choose Move to list.
    • Click the list you want to move your subscribers to.

Totally copy/pasted from the MailChimp site - which is where the OP should go to get answers.

Hi Andy, i have no idea how this works, so i can't give you advice. Probably better to contact Mailchimp directly if you haven't already.

Also, i did a search on YouTube for your particular issue and there seem to be alot of tutorial videos available to help you out.

    Hope you appreciated this.

Searching YouTube - or the internet - for answers to post here isn't helpful. You end up posting 'stuff' anyone can find on their own with a google search.
