Creating An Email Swipe

I'm normally a fairly intelligent guy, depending on who you ask. (In my opinion, I'm incredibly intelligent and even witty.)

Well, I'm stumped on something that I can't seem to find an example for. I recently started my first list-building campaign, and I'm using some free and some paid methods to drive people to my landing page. In 6 days, I've gained 10 subs, and I'm very, very happy about that.

On the recommendation of Paul Nicholls and a few others, I joined Safe Swaps so that I could purchase a few solo ads to build my list more quickly. Here's what stumps me, though:

It keeps asking me to build a swipe. I've Googled all kinds of searches related to email swipes, looked through their help files, and even contacted members so that I can get an idea of what to do, and I've come up with zilch.

Can someone just paste a generic swipe file here that I can look at, maybe two?

Thank you!

Are you referring to a collection of successful solo ads that
you can model from? I'm not so sure what you are really
    asking for here.

I have thousands of emails in my folders that I keep on hand when I need some new ideas.

Your swipe file is basically other peoples emails, that you can dissect and create your own.

If you join some list builders (listjoe/adchiever) or whatever you will get tons of emails and the ones that are creative and would get you to buy, save them and use that email style for your own product/website.

        Hope that Helps.

My advice would be to opt-in to a bunch of different safe list sites such as List Joe, List Auction, List Bonus etc and start reading through different sales emails from people...Make note of the titles and content that catch your eye and try following the format and style that makes YOU want to read or buy.

Joseph posted a good template. It's the same format/style we use when writing autoresponder emails (aka email swipe).

Off topic but you look younger Ray.

If you are using Safe Swaps, shortlist a number of sellers that you are interested in and join all of their lists. You will then see exactly what they are sending out. I think with Safe Swaps the seller must use your swipe provided (more or less) but if you buy from their own website, as Joseph says, ask if they will use your swipe.

You will find that solo ads in the IM niche are usually pretty short, to the point and rather hypey.

Originally Posted by JaRyCu View Post

Just do a search on google for the person's name and you will usually be able to find their newsletter sign up.

            Hope this helps,

Interesting discussion, just a couple of things that may help it along:
    1. When doing solos/ swaps it's best to keep it short and sweet. For that reason I would say that although Joseph's swipe is comprehensive - based on experience I personally wouldn't recommend a swipe of that length.
    2. THE most important things in your email are the subject line and the first line (in that order). You absolutely must get the attention of your potential subscriber immediately or they will either not click on the email in the first place or click out immediately.
    3. Don't waste time with safe list traffic. It's low quality and a waste of time (my opinion based on experience)
    4. There may be genuine reasons why a solo provider would change the heading or content of a swipe. In my case, my solo ad business runs under the name of "The NowOver2u Team"" so on a basic level we can not say "I" in am email and must say "We" Also, some of our clients are not great at writing so we try to help them out.
    5. Always remember that with solos your objective is to get as high a proportion of emails opened as possible followed by getting the maximum number of opens to subscribe to your list. The first prize is subscribers on your list of course.
    6. Based on this - providers will usually over deliver clicks BUT you are interested in conversions i.e. people on YOUR list so you need to monitor your stats closely
Don't want to go on too long but hope that helps a little.

    Cheers

There is that "T" word again.

I call myself MR T. LOL, because really we are not marketers, we are testers of tactics that make money.

Email swipes and writing copy was really hard when i first started out...now after studying people like frank kern I can pump out winners whenever I want. Plus I save my emails that kill it.

For example I sent 2 emails to my buyer list that bought in $4,490 at the start of the year. I am good with copy, but this day the email I wrote was short, sweeeeet, and just tickled my buyers the way it was benefit driven and WHAMMO.

So my two biggest tips would be to test test test, and also save every email you send out that really kills it in the orders coming in. Then you know what works and what doesnt.

Stupid newbie doesn't even know what a "swipe" is.

Personally, in all seriousness (yeah right) I tested every freakin safe list type service out there and they were all a massive waste of time.

You know how to get traffic...open your mouth and tell people what you have to say. Buy some solo ads. You know the people you can trust to steer you to the good ones.

              Walks away grumbling..."Stupid newbi..."

    Jason,

If you do go the safe list route be sure to set up a completely separate email address for them. List joe used to be a very decent source as I built an IM based list of over 2000 in less than 45 days. It has been a while since I used them though.

I also have another source I only give out to my list members but being who you is :-) .. PM me and I will find and send you the link.

    Jason,

The list was very responsive but it was an IM/MMO related list. It was also in 2006 or so. I have no idea how well they convert now but if it is still IM people .. they are still looking for things like traffic, websites, and blogs.

I also did this from a paid status .. not the free status.

I'm looking at the paid status...it's $67/mo for their best option in my opinion (it goes higher, but the higher isn't relevant for a new list and site IMO). That's not bad considering what I'm promoting pays $20/sale. I'd only need 4 sales to break even.

First of all .. you are not a newbie. Second .. with the current economy ... anyone not in the niche is leaving money on the table .. and last but not least, you need help on the subject .. all you need to do is ask.

I personally like to create a brand new email address and use it to subscribe to other relevant marketers' list.

If they are making good money from their list, they must be doing something right in the email messages that they send to the list.

I will keep the emails organized by having a folder for each marketer's email messages.

In that way, I will be able to study the flow of their email messages. I will take note of those email subject headline and email messages that captures my attention and I will save it in my Swipe email folder.

When it it time to create email message, I will go to my Swipe folder and make some modification to it to suit my style of writing.

I find this is working for me and I hope you find it useful too

The world is full of SHARKS but also good people.

Food for thought - not meant as a slam against all solo ad providers. I use solos myself.

The swipe email is the email you give to the solo provider to get eyes on your offer. It is the email the solo ad provider agrees to send to their list. They approve it, or tell you to change it in some way. Then they send the email you provided to their list. You wait for traffic and pray for a high optin rate.

But wait! There are solo ad providers that will never actually use the swipe email that you sent them. You think they use it, but they really never do.

Instead they use a very generic email that many people will click.

Click rotators (Google to learn more) are commonly used in the Solo industry. Sometimes, not a bad thing for you as a buyer, other times used for a bit of mischief on the solo ad provider's end.

Truth - There is very little you can do to ensure that your swipe file will actually be used.

Yes, you can tell them you want to signup to their list so you get the email. But, the seller can easily make a segmented list of one person (you) and send you the one and only one email that really uses your swipe file so you think everything is on the up and up.

It is easy to lose your shirt with this traffic source, as well as with all others. You need to test, test, test and check optins and SALES. You will know if something works or if it does not by testing.

Use your best judgement when using solo ads and all other forms of paid traffic. There are some great solo ad providers, but unfortunately, the bad seem to outnumber the good.
      ---------------------------------------------
The ultimate swipe to provide for a solo ad would be something like - "Discover (insert your free gift here) so you be better at (insert how it would help). ** You must enter and confirm your email to receive this awesome thing!" Click the link below to get it."
      ----------------------------------------------------
The above is obviously not a well though out swipe email.

But, that way the only people clicking (to go to your offer) would be the ones that know everything about it, & know they have to give their good email and would of course - optin. Your optin rate would be damn near 100%.
      --------------------------------------------------------------------
You would be hard pressed to find a solo ad seller that would send out an email like that.

      TEST, TEST, TEST EVERYTHING!

I'd say: never ever ever ever send unrelated, generic swipe formats ..

You have 10 subscribers by now ..
You can either turn them into raving fans that wait for each email you send ..
Or you can just try to get "a quick buck" from them and leave them dead & unresponsive ..

So, It's a great thing that you've decided to take this business model & start building your email list !

Swapping clicks is great for building your email list larger and larger day by day easier !

So, your question is about "swipe emails" ..
I would recommend very much the product: "The IM Goofball's Guide To $51 - $74 Per Hour" .. as It's based on making money with writing swipe files and short affiliate reviews ..
The beauty of it is that the product creator shows you by video & text how to craft super converting promotional swipe emails.

Okay, So, if you want to craft a swipe email right now, What would you do?
    - Start with the WHY .. Why are you sending that email ? Define your goal.
Let's say you're sending out that email to send some clicks to a swap partner ..

One of the coolest methods I've been seeing this dude doing .. (I'm on his list) ..
He sends out an email announcing a "FREE Report .."
I open the email, and I do find the free report .. with some other links ..
The links are relevant links to some squeeze pages of his clickbanking partners (clickbanking is just a fancy term for swapping clicks)

Since theoretical talking will look like non-sense to you .. Let me quote you the exact email:

Subject: [FREE DOWNLOAD] (ebook name) EBOOK

    Email:
Reminder: Please download your attached Ebook if you missed last email.

Ebook is "ebook name, I'm not going to mention the name"

    1. Now, you'd like to
learn how to make up to $700+ a day!

==> Click This If You Want To Start Earning!
[link to clickbanking partner's squeeze page]

    2. If, you'd like to make 10,000 to
    20,000 bucks a month online!

Yes, you'd like daily deposits in
    YOUR accounts!

==> Click To Get The System!
[link to another clickbanking partner's squeeze page]

What are you waiting for? Do it for
    yourself and start earning:

    Cheers,

    [his name]

==> Click To Get The System!
    [his link]

P.S. Please send your feedback about attached Ebook.

This method is good, and I know because it worked on me hahaha ...

The free ebook is just a PLR he got from somewhere
    but it's a good read though ..

    So, that's an option

If you want to promote an evergreen product ..
I would strongly suggest checking out "ultimatesuccesstrainingprogram" by Tom Glover (nice guy)
That product speaks around how to do "Cool Promotions" .. using the "law" of reciprocity

So basically, what it is about is to take ONE THING from your product
    and learn it
and teach it in a video
    When you do that
you'd just say "hey, I've learned this from this XYZ product, check it out, it has my highest recommendation"
And you put your link below the video

So, the page where your people will go will be like this

    headline
    video 1 - intro
    video 2 - the value
video 3 - explaining the product

So the Headline should be a result that the product got you, or the product creator, or anyone who had tried the methods there and had had some success with it

The first video should be an introduction of yourself, and what the visitor should expect while he's in this page ..

The second video is explaining this one thing that you've picked from your product
that one thing should take your prospects one step closer to their goals
like if they want to build a big list, you should mention one thing that will get them instant results and that they can apply right now and get results with it ..

The third video is just a plain quick promotion of the xyz product you've chosen to promote

SO why doing all of this ?
you provide value = your awesomeness go up => visitors trust you and they buy what you recommend

    that's the general outlay

So, you obviously need a swipe to send to your peeps to send them to that page

    It's very very simple

    Create something like this:

    " Hey [name] !
I've created a special free video for you only !
This video is not public, and sent only to you (and others in this newsletter)

Watch it, and tell me what you think
    (link)

It's about (explain what they'll learn from that video)
again, Get Your FREE ACCESS to the video
    (link)

    (sign off) "

    as simple as that !

    Intro,
    value,
    sign off.

I hope this was somehow helpful :-)

I only mention the names of the products to show you where my knowledge is collected from ..
So you can get access to the info from its origins

I hope you've enjoyed reading this (long) post ..

Cheers ! You've just read an 830 words comment (cheers to me too for writing it haha)
