Anyone used SENDY?

I'm looking at sendy.co too for a client with around 50,000 emails he wants to send to. Also looking for the best hosting to use with sendy.com. Hope to get feedback on this topic.

So why not to send by usual means i.e. Outlook a link to opt-in page of any of the above mentioned providers? This will help you to not get your account suspended and guarantee 100% compliance with their requirements. Without explicit double opt-in I guarantee your email complaints and bounces rates will be unacceptable for any provider.

Sendy requires use of amazon SES, which is also very strict about non-optin lists. It might be more appropriate to setup your own SMTP server rather than being in constant fear of account termination by SES. If you decide to setup your own SMTP, be sure to setup all the usual authentication systems, or you could endup in an open-relay.

Sendy is certainly a lot cheaper than aweber or mailchimp! A huge advantage there. My only concern would be deliverability issues. Can anyone comment here with their experience?

I have just started using Sendy and it's been fantastic.

Cheaper than I was spending on Aweber.

And have had great delivery results.

I have Sendy hosted on HostGator - Then of course Amazon SES - which is 10,000 emails a day and like 5 emails every second. If you need more capacity than that - I believe you just submit a request, and it should get approved - or over time, your capacity will automatically increase.

Sendy also allows you to just copy and paste email addresses into your list. I don't know how Amazon would "verify" that they're not optin email addresses, but maybe it can/does.

Obviously, I wouldn't recommend doing anything illegal or immoral.

You'll have to manually include your business address, unsubscribe link, etc to comply with the SPAM laws.

But, all in all, I give Sendy a thumbs up!

Hey @NatesMarketing, Good strategy but how the heck do you install sendy on wordpress. Some say it's as easy as installing a wordpress blog but I beg to differ. I couldn't find one video on the web about this and Sendy charges $79 which sucks but even more importantly, don't wanna start handing out Usernames and passwords unless it's an absolute MUST. Please don't direct me to their Getting Started page, I obviously have been there already, like, Explain it to me like a 2 year old. That would help alot

Do you have any advice on requesting Production Access with Amazon SES?

There are a couple of websites (at insty.me and List Master Sensei) that provide website tips for the Website URL to submit in the request form.

The website URL is optional, but apparently highly recommended.

It is also recommended to provide as much detail in the "Use Case Description" as possible.

I would really appreciate any suggestions that you may have, thanks.

I sent an email to sendy asking for some clarification (I don't remember what I asked). I did not get any reply. That is a red flag in my opinion - they are not long term focused. You should contact them before you make a purchase. See if they respond well. It may be that it happened only to me.

That would be a red flag for me too. The service I use (MailerLite) have responded to 5 enquiries I had within 24hrs - and it was one of the co-founders who responded each time.

Sendy is great, I used to use it before I built my own solution.

In response to some of the questions:
- It is as easy as it is to install Wordpress BUT nowhere does it say that it is a wordpress plugin or that you install it inside of wordpress. It is its own system. You must have FTP access to your site, database etc.
- Describe clearly what you intend to do with SES and make sure you say that you're using sendy and that you have an automated way of handling bounces and complaints. That way you're guaranteed to be granted production access.

Are you selling/sharing your "own solution"? I'm sitting with my hand in my hair and don't know which way to go. My list is not big enough yet to make Aweber worth the while, but not being able to create market segments with Sendy (as I understand it) is also not an option.

Any help / assistance / recommendation / advise would be appreciated.

Using Sendy has its pros and cons.

Pros:
- Price
- Ease of Use
- All basic features are present
Cons:
- Arbitrary SES rules and limitations
- Auto-responders only work with web forms (can't manually add contacts to auto responders)
- Not as advanced or customizable as other solutions such as Interspire
On the plus side, if you send good email to your list, your SES limits will grow organically. I sent just over 500k email is April, and my limits are now at 250,000 day at a rate of 50 email/second.

Overall, I'm glad I made the switch from Mailchimp. Sending 500k emails with Sendy costs me $50, which is a helluva lot cheaper than Mailchimp so I can live with the limitations.

Additional Points

Hosting: If you import large lists, make sure you have a decent hosting environment. I have one instance for small lists [under 10k records] and it's perfect. More than that and you'll probably need a VPS or EC2 instance to be able to upload larger lists.

Bounce Management: Sendy doesn't have great bounce handling. There's not way to manage bounces across clients or hook in to other SMTP APIs. If you send from multiple locations and need to consolidate your bounces regularly, then this might not be the solution for you

I use Sendy. I'm very happy with it. Couple of important points:

1. You do need to request production access from Amazon SES. This was no problem for me and they approved it really quickly.

2. Initial quote is 10,000 per day but they automatically bumped me to 25,000 per day after seeing no real spam complaints etc.

3. Just be careful on your hosting. Sendy needs to have 3 cron jobs setup, and the autoresponder cron has to run every minute. Many hosts, like Hostgator, do not allow 1 minute crons on a shared hosting account. If you do it, they'll automatically come in and change it to a 23 hour cron which royally messes up your autoresponder. So make sure your host allows 1 minute crons OR else use a external cron service which is supported by Sendy.

Since I have a list of over 100k members which I don't really monetize but I do send news to, Sendy/Amazon is a god send since the other mail providers would charge an arm and a leg for that kind of volume.

I use sendy and have been very happy with it.

I use Amazon as the 3rd party sender and my open and click rates have been as good if not better than I had with Aweber.

Getting approved by Amazon is easy and only takes a day. If your only sending once a week you costs will be minimal. Hope this helps.

Hey, I am fond of Sendy. Is indeed not that advanced as mailchimp or getresponse, but for basic email en enmailresponder this is great.

We use sendy for many of our mail campaigns. We can confirm pretty much everything other warriors have mentioned.

Sendy is exceptionally cost effective, it takes a little bit extra set up time to get going, but we have on average found lower deliverability rates than with services such as getresponse or mailchimp.

On balance, it is worth it.

I have used Mailchimp, Sendy and InfusionSoft as well, I found that Infusion soft have less bounce rate comparatively then other two. I recommend infusionSoft for Email marketing.

Hey i just started using this, i found it works pretty well, no issue, fast send and amazon ses is cheap. Im going to use it for all affiliate mrketing. The only downfall is the decent wordpress plugins for subscribers you have to pay for.

we have set it up using both the API and the WP plugin and found the API to offer more flexibility but we have a dedicated sendy person. The plugin is ok for smaller lists. One thing to note, if you have a list of over say 450k you are at some point going to start taxing your server, you have it on a cheap VPS and it WILL slow down site/server.
We found it better to just segment large lists into 75k or so and either cron it out or manually wait and send each list.
LOVE sendy and as long as your list is clean SES is the way to go IMHO.

Have you tried some other SMTP services? Some services are flexible with acceptable complaint rates, but since you got banned, I can assume you must have done something real bad like sending mails to too many bad addresses or trying to send more than once a day to same list. You have to play with the rules, otherwise there are som good ESPs that will never ban you.

I just installed Sendy as a cheaper option for clients where I design their mailings and they provide the copy to me.

You can run it on HostGator or almost any shared hosting environment, but if your list is large, that could be a problem. I have all of my sites on a cloud VPS.

Does anyone know if there is a good reason to put Sendy on its own IP address?

One thing that sendy really lacks and which makes it unusable is the lack of list segmentation. Sendy has none of it.

Which is ironically enough is a must to have for any type of email marketing!

Otherwise would be great solution.

Also, Sendy does work with SMTP's as well and not only with Amazon Ses. Click edit Brand and look for SMTP settings"

I have used Sendy personally. Though its a nice software, however you have to take care that your hosting is powerful and capable enough to handle the load. In my case, it was very hard for me to manage that.

I found MailGet few days back which I am using now. MailGet is pretty awesome as it is a hosted solution which connects to Amazon SES for email sending. Since its hosted, I do not have to worry about hosting anything myself or worrying about my server getting crashed in the middle of sending emails which happened to me sometime while using Sendy.

My friend uses it. He says Amazon SES deliverability sucks and doesn't use it. He's currentlytesting mandrill with it. I know he has used and liked sendgrid.

He said that if all your doing is pumping offers out that you probably want to rotate through smtps. Use one for X months, leave before account gets killed. Use the next, etc...

Using one SMTP for 1 month and another for another month .. bad strategy in my opinion ...

Better alternative is to dynamically rotate the SMTP in one single campaign itself.

signup for
1. SES
2. MailGun
3. SendGrid
4. Mandrill

Send 25% through one smtp, another 25% through another SMTP and so on ... all happening dynamically in real time for better sending rates ...

neeraga is partially right about using multiple email providers or SMTP in general.
But hey the amount time lost for dealing with all these accounts to send a single newsletter is hell of a job. In fact the email provider have to give you an option that eliminates this issue if you have large lists of subsribers. Also rotating IP's is not the only factor to get deliverability. You can use less IPs but send slower thus getting the same results. And so,from the above mentioned it turns out that amazon ses in general is not that good that it looks like (sendy uses it) as it is really suspicious to have the time and IPs count to demonstrate consistensy and not bring your campaign in the spam folder among so many spammers in their network.
You can use sendy with other SMTP providers.

Well i have tried Sendy. Honestly i did not like the delivery rates it achieved with my targetted list of subscribers. I am not sure what other tools are there in the market and would genuinely love a suggestion.

I used sendy for a short while.

My experience:
- It was relatively easy to set up, but I had a walk through from a friend
- You have to warm up
- The opens and Click throughs were the same I get from aweber
- inboxing gmail is tricky
- Sendy stopped working suddenly after ten days or so. I contacted Ben, the creator / support guy. He told me to update sendy. I did. Sendy still did not work.
I contacted Ben several times, and waited about two weeks for him to answer.
When he finally answered he offered no help, and after two more mails from me he simply refunded me. Sendy was history for me then.

My recommendation: Use Mailwizz
Mailwizz is a bit more tricky to set up, but is has immense advantages.
1. First rate support and user forum
Really, I have never seen anything like the support on mailwizz. Fast answers, all problems solved within hours.
2. You have a choice of sending servers including amazon ses, mailgun, elastic email, smtp and lots more that I can't remember
You can use one or all of them at once
3. Mailwizz is cheaper
4. You can have many different users with their own log in and admin area
5. Importing lists is easy as 123
