Question about list building

Hello,

I'm fairly new here but I've been doing Internet marketing for the past 3.5 years.

Why haven't I ever spent time on WF? I've always been different I guess.

Spent most of my time lurking around blackhatworld.com and bestblackhatforum.com and quite frankly all of these forums are flooded with information so at times I felt like there was no reason to venture any further.

But then I realized something the other day, with all due respect to BHW, there's a lot of immature kids on that forum talking about "I want to get into Internet Marketing but I only have $5 to my name..." (probably their allowance) "...what Fiverr gig should I spend it on!?"

Sorry if that sounds snooty, I know some people have less to spend than others, but you have to understand this is all too common at BHW.

Not to mention, probably just under 50% of the members would be perfectly happy with $20/day earnings and I'm not exaggerating.

When I finally came over to the Warrior Forum, I found that I was able to relate to the people around here a lot more; we share similar goals and I've even found people with a similar background story as my own:

I'm someone that has worked an exhausting full-time job for the past 7 years, since the time I graduated college, up until February of this year... when I thought to myself, I don't know if freedom and happiness are in the cards for me, but I'll be damned if I don't try to find out because that's my dream and it would be foolish for anyone not to at least TRY to pursue a dream if they have one, and if they still have the chance, which I do.

So that's when I told my boss that I would be leaving to pursue a career in Internet Marketing.

Exciting indeed, but the pressure is on...

Part of my strategy was to literally force my mind into operating in "do or die" mode. Knowing that I HAD to be successful by a certain date would ensure that I would do everything in my power to make that happen, as opposed to getting lazy.

I don't want to jinx anything, but I'm actually coming off my best week in Internet Marketing, making well over the amount I make from my full time job in the same period of time.

Anyway, looks like I got into telling my story when my intention was to ask a simple question. Forgive me...

My question (finally):

I'm trying to build my list but with my situation, I'm going straight for the Buyer List, which means I am planning on creating and selling an ebook in the $5 - $15 range.

Now, as far as legally building my list, if I sell a product to someone, am I allowed to add that person's email address to my list at that point? Or would I have to create some kind of opt-in after the purchase like "Thanks for your purchase. Enter your email address and I'll send the product to you directly"

And even then, would that constitute being able to add them to my list?

Thanks WARRIORS.

I have a feeling I'll be graduating from BHW and migrating over here pretty soon!

Whenever I buy something or sign up somewhere, there's a box which I have to check (most often, uncheck...) asking whether I want to join the list. Since the big sites use this, I assume it is legal way to do it... You need consent.

Not sure about the legality. I thought that you subscribe you are on the list. Nobody forced you to subscribe.

If you want a buyers list then ask for their email address once they are on your checkout page and then email them. "Thankyou for purchasing my product". So they are your subscriber and it is legal to send them emails till they are you subscribers. And 2nd method to get buyers list is solo ads. Go to Safe-Swaps and purchase clicks for buyers traffic.

    Hi,

    Sure!

You can list your product at Warrior Plus for example.

And here you can create a campaign through your email auto responder
and link it to that campaign at Warrior Plus through your listing.

So once someone buys your product they'll automatically be added to that
list and will receive their links too if you don't want to send them to a separate
    download page.

    Hope this helps.

As gcbmark20 says, you should be able to link your email autoresponder to your sales page so you get the sale and a client.

Ok thanks guys. I think I've understood your responses, but to be sure I have it right...

For those of you that mentioned I could use an Auto-responder (I have Aweber) to get the e-mail addresses, please confirm if this is the type of scenario you are referring to:

    1) Visitor clicks to "buy" and is redirected to PayPal for checkout
    2) After checkout, buyer is redirected to "Thank You" page
    3) Thank You page includes something like "Please enter your email address below to receive your Ebook" and that's where I place an Aweber opt-in box
    4) Aweber collects the e-mail address and sends a follow up e-mail to the buyer with Ebook attached (or linked).

If that's right, is this a fairly common method? I wouldn't want to be doing anything completely out of the ordinary.

    Thanks again

What you've described is one way to do it...
You can also link your Aweber campaign to the product that you're selling and the buyers will automatically end up on your list after the transaction.
JVZoo works the same way but you'll have to contact their support to switch off the double opt-in!
      Good luck
