CASL 3 year email exception question

I'm making the final preparations to be compliant with the new CASL email law but there's one thing that's not clear to me.

There is a 3 year exception period where you can email users that only gave implied consent if you've emailed them before July 1st 2014, but does this 3 year period start from the time they gave implied consent or does it start on July 1st when the law goes in effect?

For example, let's say a buyer made a purchase 2 years ago, can I email them for 1 or 3 years if they do not give me express consent and do not unsubscribe?

Thank you

    Hey there...

as much as I know, the 3 years exception period is due to 2017...
here's a good explanation with examples that Mailchip just posted -

In any case, I'm not a lawyer and would not suggest anything here...
but the CASL shouldn't worry you if you work properly (really add subs through optin pages...
add the unsubscribe link to your emails, address, etc...).

    Good Luck :-)

Thanks, the only ones I'm concerned with is people I add to the mailing list just for making a purchase.

If I understand correctly I'm still allowed to do that as long as they don't unsub and that they've purchased in the last 2 years.

I'll look at the link you provided.
