Iist building question

Hi Guys

I am strongly considering building a list. I was just wondering, for anyone that has a list, in your experience, is anyone every willing to pay a minimal monthly fee to be part of a list?

thanks

Yes - it's not such a rare business model at all. They're generally known as "subscription newsletters" or "subscription ezines", but in effect they're exactly what you describe.

It's a question about selling a subscription product, really, rather than just a "listbuilding question", perhaps?

(There are various different ways of doing this, but my understanding is that they're often arranged through various types of "membership software", so that the sending-out process is automated in conjunction with the payment-process, and only paid-up subscribers receive them.)

If the content is valuable enough some people will pay an exorbitant (IMO) fee. If you get into certain markets, $197 per year subscription newsletters are not uncommon.

If you want to do the charging model, I would strongly consider looking at doing something like a privacte Facebook group instead. This way people can interact with one another and everyone gets a lot more value out of the group.

The chances of getting someone to pay to be on your list are extremely small...

You'd have to provide brilliant content... And I can't see it working in the IM niche.

I think you may be better off with a membership site.

Yes i agree with the membership site model. Simply make people sign up to get access to the site and then follow up on them when you post new content.

If you provide value then people will most definately buy what you recommend, but i doubt people will pay just to get on your list. But i guess it also depends on the niche...

It's little harder, you should have already free subscription with some great testimonials and after that try some advertising to broadcast the offer, optimize title and benefits and there goes on...

I vote for a membership site.

A membership site and forum has much more perceived value than an e-mail subscription. You would be hard-pressed to convince people that your list is worth money. The benefits of a membership site/forum are more obvious.

Why don't you start by building the free e-mail list and then once you have enough subscribers, set up the paid membership site so that members can connect with each other and access premium content and perks.

yes, it isnt rare. Courses offered by people usually fall under this. its like a monthly subscription. which means you should be prepared to have enough and unique content to offer to them every month to make them remain in your list.
