How would you deal with autoresponders when prospective customer becomes a buyer?

I use mailchimp autoresponders (they now call it automation workflow). I am not familiar with the update. I am also not dead set on mailchimp either so if anyone knows of a better idea through another program do tell...

Anyway, the other day a lady signed up to newsletter where I send free ebook. A few days later she decided to purchase. However she was still in the "prospective customer" email list so she got sent a couple more autoresponders where i soft sell the product. She assumed it was me badgering her. Long story short she got a refund. Obviously I removed her from "prospective customer" list manually. I just don't want to go through this again, its a complete waste of time.

Actually the more I think about it the more I wish I knew some sort of system or idea to have 1 list only (would be way more easier to manage!) and have that one list geared towards prospectives and previous buyers.

Any ideas out there? Thank you!

    Hey,

You will have to set conditions in your settings so that if a subscriber made a purchase they are automatically transfered to the next list.

In Aweber (the one I'm using) it is called List Automation and in here you will set up rules.

What you do is set an action/rule for a particular list. Say unsunbscribe list A if subscribed to List B. that way you don't have to do it manually.

Then I use dealguardian to manage the purchasing progress. In there I integrate the condition I already set up above, so when someone purchase they are automatically added to a different list. Once aweber detect this, that person will then be deleted from the first list and goes to the second list.

There are stuff to know inbetween, I could help you through with this if you get stuck. Unfortunately I cannot help you with Mailchimp as I also find it too complicated. (yes, I'm fairly new to this myself!)

If you are a beginner I would strongly suggest you use aweber. All features and functionality are pretty much basic in here.

Matter of fact I tried to look into list automation in Mailchimp and could not find anything. lol

I hope that makes things lighter, and yes I would urge you to transfer to aweber for this very reason.

If you made up your mind and grabbed aweber, I'm more than willing to assist you with this process.

    Cheers,

    Anthony!

Yes, in aweber it's pretty easy to setup those rules. Once it's done and someone buys, you just have them fill in their email in a second opt in form and the system automatically takes them out of one list and puts them in the other.

As it's already been said, aweber is pretty easy to set up, you can get really good response from get response too but the main thing is, you can easily get it done super fast.

    It's good strategy though!

Automation easy to do in getresponse too.

    1. Set automation rule.
    2. Create goal (it will give you a JavaScript code to put on final page for the goal)

    And you are done.

Once people click on link in your email to make a purchase and eventually after purchase arrive at thank you page, the system will detect them and execute the rule automatically.

In Getresponse it's called automation too, you find it under the campaigns list.

    In mailchimp it's easy too.

I have a custom hidden field in the signup form that I call "bought".

When a sale is made, this field is set to "1" via API. If you don't have many sales you can do this manually by editing the subscriber.

Send autoresponders only to subscribers with the field bought not equal to "1".

Another option would be to look at Traffic Wave - it's a fully featured autoresponder and the thing I like about it is you pay one set price and the price doesn't go up if your list gets bigger - unlike Aweber you'll find where your fee is based on the size of your list..
