What kind of products are most effective for email marketing?

Hey guys.. brand new member here. So basically my buddy alex becker who I met in college is now a millionaire, and has a very successful seo business in dallas. I asked him what is a profitable way to make money online and he said email marketing is the way to go... so here I am!

But now what? What the heck do I advertise? Do I make a website and try to get my leads to buy something there? So many questions.. somebody point me in a direction where I won't be wasting my money.

And I want to say thanks ahead of time because I'm sure I will get a lot of great advice on this thread.

I mean.. I really don't know much since I'm so new at this, but I would imagine a website about internet marketing and how to make money online would be the most beneficial.

      Thoughts or suggestions?

Now for some reason or another, it always seems to be that a "new" person coming to online marketing, thinks that they need to be in the "Internet Marketing" (site and list about internet marketing) niche.

I was in the IM niche for 6 years or so, and actually either partnered with, or was a JV/affiliate manager for several of the big names in the niche at the time.

However, I completely walked away from that niche roughly about a year ago.

Simply put...I wasn't happy being in that niche at all. There's so much BS and basically crappy (if not downright damaging) information being given as advice or being sold...I found myself disgusted with it, and no longer wanted to be involved with it at all.

Also, there's many of my friends from the early days, who also came to the same conclusion after being in it for several years themselves.

I know this may sound like a bit of a "cliche" because we hear it all the time, but you'll be
much happier if you have a real passion for something, and it makes you feel really good
about yourself, for helping people in certain areas of their life.

Also, often people fall into the IM niche, selling marketing products, when they've really not even experienced any "real success" with it beforehand, which in my opinion...makes them complete hypocrits!

The old "do as I say, not as I do" crap...

That said, whatever you niche you choose to be in, you NEED to be sure that it's a PROFITABLE niche...because not all are.

I'm sure you can find loads on information about niche selection even just right here on this forum...

My point is, don't think you have to just "follow the herd" of what most "newbies" do...

As a matter of fact, I'd say you would be smarter "not to"...and get your feet wet to learn how to market effectively in other niches outside of IM first.

        That's my two cents worth...

Yes, I know your friend Becker is highly successful in the IM niche. I'm actually a customer of his as well.

One thing you have to remember about him as well though...he has the chops, and success with his businesses to ethically back himself and his claims up, and for most new marketers in the IM space, that simply isn't the case

I appreciate the advice. I am going to go over this thoroughly and try to implement these strategies. Thanks for your help! Do you recommend any step by step guides that will help me get started? Or should I just stick to the forum?

Congratulations in your new found glory! I would give the same advice... but it seems that you're not getting what this post is asking for though.

I believe the question is how to get started online, not how to be in the IM niche.

Actually, no I'm not missing the point of this post.

He mentioned and was wondering "if starting a site about internet marketing" was the way to go..I simply shared my experience with him, and explained that he doesn't have to follow what most "newbies" do.

And he's right, of course (you already knew this).

Well, if you don't have your own products, you perhaps want to be an affiliate? So you probably wouldn't really be "advertising" anything, per se. You'd be "attracting traffic". Not just a pedantic distinction, but a very realistic one: it's important to appreciate that "affiliates don't sell - we pre-sell".

This might help/interest you (if only to put you off depending on Google for your traffic): http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post8659398

    Not normally, no.

That's what the people who try to do it without using email marketing do (and that's normally a big part of why it's so difficult for them).

The primary purpose of your website should be to collect the visitors' email addresses.

There are various different types of opt-in page you can use for that. Many people recommend squeeze pages, but they're not what I use, myself: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7939758

But that isn't about "where you get the traffic from", it's about "what you do with it when you've got it".

You have a long learning-curve ahead of you, and you sound like a man who already knows that. In addition to the links above, here are five more threads which, between them, cover all the basics of list-building/email marketing, and will at the very least get you oriented (between the six of them, they're probably better than an "introductory book/course" you might otherwuse buy ...

    Nope.

That's the top priority to avoid.

It would be a huge mistake for you start out by trying effectively to teach people things of which you yourself have no successful experience.

Starting out in IM-related and/or MMO-related niches is the single commonest mistake that beginning marketers make, and the single commonest reason for the low success-rate in internet marketing.

"Pick a niche - any niche ... don't tell us what it is ... (but don't let it have anything to do with internet marketing or making money online!!)".

But how do I get people to buy the product I am an affiliate for? Is blogging the most effective way? My buddy alex becker told me to get into email marketing but that is kind of general.. What are the most effective ways to utilize email marketing?

This really depends on what niche you're in but I think in affiliate marketing you mainly want to create curiosity and excitement about the products you're promoting. As someone else pointed out you're not writing a sales letter you're just trying to get them to the sales letter which hopefully will convert them to a buyer.

    My recipe is simple.

    1. find this what the people demand - some very hot product or service
    2. give them sample of them for free (if possible) - collect email addresses
    3. send them in next newsletters links to freebies (but valuable) to warm them up
    4. then from time to time include aff offers (but not alone, also with freebies)

    it works.
Making the relationship with your subscribers is cruicial, they must get from you valuable service/product for free first, and also frequently including from time to time your affiliate offer, otherwise your list get burned fast. They must get curious of next newsletters and the only way to do that is send them in every newsletter this what they really expect. Don`t use some cheap tricks cos your list get burned fast. There are no shortcuts.

Hey Joe... I'm also a start up online marketer myself. So let me share with you how it all started:

Last year, I decided to go with mini sites... I've hired a guy from the Philippines who run a team of VAs to build me 200 mini sites promoting products from clickbank.

I thought that if I have the right people and the right amount to invest I could scale up in about 6 months.

        I was dead wrong!

It took me 9months or so before I finally understood that things don't happen that easy. Well if it was, every capable soul will jump right into the wagon (no questions asked!).

I must say, it has a lot to do with what your passion is... it doesn't have to be online. Just as long as you're madly inlove with it. If money is what this is all about, I can guarantee you right now you will but fizzle out faster than you will know.

This was the turning point for me... I realized that it was more of a fun thing rather than a means to an end. I may or may not keep my day job for long, but it really did not matter.

So after realizing what I really wanted to do... I stepped back and regrouped and now I've re-committed.

A couple of months back, I've invested into MOBE. Primarily not because of the commission and the opportunity they offer, but because the products are but the real stuff!

I'm re-inventing myself and getting to the heart of the matter.

If I where to walk a mile on your shoes, I'd say go mess things up a bit. If you decide to market a product, create a branded blog, or set up niche sites, it does not matter. What matter's is that you do something about it.

I hope this light things up for you.

        Cheers,

        Anthony

P.S. One way or another you will end up investing, be it your money or your time. So make sure you are prepared!

If you are targeting websites relevant to your website then a good way is to propose a mutual agreement. If you have something you can offer in return for a link then that's a good place to start. The search engines aren't anything to worry about. The link on their site would be outgoing but, relevant. It is defiantly not easy getting high ranking links. but 4 high ranking links are better then 100 low ranking links. It's all about getting who ever you are trying to contact excited about what you are trying to do. If there is something in it for them then they will consider looking into it more. Wish you the best and be patient, the results are slow but worth it in the long run!

    Affiliate Marketing in a nutshell.

    1) Research a Product you are interested in to see if it can make money. (Jump into ClickBank. Search on your niche. Make sure there are plenty of offers and look for a gravity above 30.

    2) Create a 1 page website with a free offer relative to your niche, include an autoresponder form

    3) Create 3 to 10 follow up e-mails. Provide value based on your Niche and trickle 2 or 3 products into the list.

    4) When someone enters your auto responder series they are sent to a thank you page with an offer relative to your list.

    5) Drive targeted traffic to your 1 page website.

    6) Get results test and adjust. Next

    Welcome to the forum Joe!

You first need to write out a plan of attack and have that right beside of you as you're building it out as it will be much easier having a visual as you're going through the steps...

But what you need to have in place is a 4 step process that will look like this!

Targeted Traffic >> Squeeze Page >> Targeted OTO >> Email List

Now I know that looks vague and it is, but it would take me hours to dissect every step above and go into great detail about it.

A lot of full time marketers(including myself) use this system and it works very well.

Now there is another step worth mentioning that I did not include above and that is creating a Targeted Lead Magnet that you will give away for FREE to entice the people to opt-in.

What you could do is build out the system above and create a nice strong follow up sequence... This differs from person to person on how many they want to create.

I personally like to have at least 7-10 follow up messages building rapport, giving out quality information and to offer them targeted offers in my niche.

Now where you're new, product creation may not be what you want to get into right out of the bat, then again it may.

If you don't want to get into product creation right out of the gate, then build out your system based around a high converting affiliate product.
