What keeps people on YOUR list for the long haul?

If I am on YOUR list, whats going to keep me there for awhile?

If I buy thru your link, whats going to make me do so, again, for future purchases?

What make you stand out, garner loyalty from me? I bought your product thru EBAY, among hundreds of others, whats going to make me come back to YOU?

You got my email address by my purchase thru your AMAZON link, whats going to make it an almost no-brainer to buy from you again when you send me an offer?

Why would I not go to the thousand other websites when I need that item again, whats going to make me think of you and your link first?

What tangible benefit am I TRULY getting that makes your list almost irresistible to your offers? What would make me struggle to seriously consider YOUR offer, yet again?

What makes me NOT go to Target or Kmart down the street for what I need, why do I or WOULD I continue to buy from your offers, being on your list?

How do you know what I truly want, how I want it and why I want a product that makes you give me what others have failed to do?

Why would I TRUST you so much above the others? Whats going to make me continue to buy from you for at least a few months or years?

Ok, you can't win everyone in that niche, but how do you keep multiple , repeat customers, like me, ON your list for as long as possible?

What content do you have that answers what I really want, more than the others?

Do you even know why I am on your list, for even a few weeks?

Am I segmented properly on your list?

How many desires can you address in that niche? How many desires are you willing to speak to in that niche? Who is your content/message for in that niche? Is it for me?

What am I waiting for when I am on your list, at least, temporarily?

How long can you hold me or anyone?

Like to know the answer too. Maybe someone with the best in list building can answer you ALL that Q.

People remain on lists because they get valuable information. Some free and some paid. If you are trying to sell stuff to your list and not providing at least 3 times as much free valuable content, then I will leave your list.

As of right now...I only have one list owner in which I look forward to his emails. The reason I love receiving his emails is because he provides so much valuable free content and he promotes products related to the specific niche of his list.

I am copying his blueprint with my own list and it seems to work great.

    Interactivity and customer support.

I'm a certified tech nerd and I'm always asking people how I can help.

My end users love that. So, how do I get them to stick around?

    Excellent customer service.

I constantly prompt them to REPLY to my emails if they have questions, and I remind them that I give a damn. I also ask them a ton of questions and again prompt them to respond...

This helps build a relationship with my subscribers, and they ask me a range of questions. (One fellow emailed me today and was sad of recent bad luck, and asked for some advice).

So, while I'm not a "big name guru", I still have a boatload of loyal subscribers who stick with me.

    Hi,

    Be there for them.

Ask them what their wants, needs and problems they need help with are.

You can do that using surveys.

Offer 1 to 1 help for FREE - 1 hour strategy sessions etc.

Get to know your subscribers on a personal level.

Just being there and listening to my subscribers has seen me receive many
repeat sales and longevity from my people.

I have been on Perry Marshall's list for as long as I can remember, never thought about unsubscribing simply because I love his content/writing style and actually look forward to his mailers. Ofcourse, it helps that his products or product recommendations are also top-notch. So Value addition is definitely one of the big factors here.

I think establishing from the very first email a sense of Authority and that you can really help them out in a way that will have Long Term benefits for them is very important

And just being consistent with this and delivering on it. No fluff.

For instance, in my E-Course I let my Subscriber know exactly what to expect in the Course. right from the git go.

I let them know in the Course we will start with building a Foundation for an Online business and as time goes on I will bring up more advance methods to help them become more successful.

And I will come out and tell them to " pull up a chair, kick your seat back, and stay awhile as you won't be sorry "

I think on top of sharing valuable information the only lists that I stay on, the creators offer a piece of themselves

Share you life story, tell anecdotes. Don't JUST sell.

Matt Furey, Kim Roach and Perry Marshall are all great examples of this

I find that if you never mail them, they forget they're on your list and will never unsubscribe. Woohoo!

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

I stay on peoples list if I feel they are there to actually help me and not make a quick buck. Think of the lists you join and actually stay opening their emails. Are they people that are trying to make a quick buck off of you or are they lists where you actually get good value from and good recommendations? If you position yourself as an authority and you help other people achieve success you won't find the need to get off their list, because than that's your loss! Some people I haven't heard from and when I get their email I immediately open it because I trust them!

      Connect with them.

Show them you really do care.

      Listen to them.

      Respond to them.

Provide them with a valuable experience no one else can provide them.

Make their day better in some way.

The bulk of my subscribers have been with me since I started in 2007. They are fiercely loyal because I've been honest and provide value to them. Sometimes I sell them stuff that can make their lives better. More often than not I protect them by not selling them the crap others are trying to sell them.

As Kevin Rogers always says: It's when they know, like and trust you. Then you're really in their lives.

Don't view them just as customers. View them as friends.

Keeping people on your list for long periods of time is difficult but not impossible. Having an interest in your subscribers, realising what they are interested in and what they want to see and sending emails that they are interested in will be what will keep them around.

I think, in my case at least, it is being real and being funny and crazy and unpredictable.

Especially being unpredictable. Of course I cannot speak for all on my List, but I think people start wanting to see what you are going to do next and the anticipation that builds with that is a big plus.

That being said, you do have to be informative along with this

But a wining combination ...Informative and Unpredictable, that is

In agreement with everyone else here but yeah....just speak to your customers like your good friends. Be cool, give give give! Give your best advice and knowledge away that really works to help people achieve their end goal. Be known as someone who consistently gives amazing value and is genuine and ...seems like a cool person. Do this daily in your emails (I think daily works best anyway but it depends on your business) and you'll build yourself up as a reputable person in your industry to your clients

I'd say something completely different than what other warriors said above. Great stuff actually, and great advice to be just yourself. It does work.

    So my two cents..

Think about web hosting services, autoresponders, tracking tools and other softwares. Do you start to see a patern? These are recurring membership, and they keep people subscribed for years!

I don't know any thing better, if you want to retain your subscribers than creating something they desperately need in their business (hint: desperate is important here).

Once you get a customer and he's happy with your product, you have it for a while.
