What is the best sales funnel structure for list building

A: Squeeze Page -> Free Ebook -> OTO1 ($7) -> OTO2 ($17) -> TY Page

B: Squeeze Page -> Free Ebook -> OTO ($24) - TY Page

I build my list using solo ads.

Thank you!

Mine's a little more complicated... I have downsells as well as upsells. And you seem to miss what you can be doing with your 'thankyou' page. (I tend to refer to it as a 'bonus' page)

But given the two choices, the first one is somewhat better.

Modesty (and forum rules) prohibit me from doing the obvious...

But here's a tidbit for you... your "thankyou" page should be rather, a "bonus" page... filled with bonus offers ...

And these "bonus" offers would be links to either clickbanking partners (which gives you more traffic), or to PPL partners (which gives you more money)

This is important to understand... at the moment that someone just entered their email address - you will rarely find a better opportunity to engage that visitor with offers that will bring you more traffic and more money.

NO BETTER OPPORTUNITY BUT ONE (and that's if they just purchased something from you)

So use that space... it's like a showroom for a BMW dealer - you gotta put your best foot forward on that 'thankyou' page.

Never ask a salesman if you should purchase the product he's selling.

The answer will always be perfectly predictable.

Your thank you page needs to be after your squeeze page dude. Immediately after joining is when the thank you page should be shown. Within that thank page is when you make an offer & offer up sells, down sells etc. Or an affiliate offer if you're promoting affiliate offers.

Your free ebook you give away (Or whatever it is you're giving way) should be sent in your first immediate email you send to every subscriber.

Sending the incentive via email is the best way in my opinion as the only way someone can claim it is by providing you with a legit email address.

The only way to find out is to split-test

Depending on the niche and the offer, someone might do better with the first option and someone with the second.

That's probably not what you wanted to hear but it's true.

I found that I make more money with a higher price on my front end. Funny but that's how it works.

One thing no one has mentioned is that you should have an OTO #3 for a high price - say $500 - $1000 plus a downsell.

    Here's what I would recommend:
    free report --> OTO#1 low price ($7-$17 or os) --> OTO#2 modest price ($47 - $97) --> OTO#3 -->high price ($497-$1000). Also, a downsell if they don't take OTO#1 ($5 or so).

Don't be afraid to offer a high priced offer. A few might take it and good make a big difference in your bottom line.

      Hi,

I'm setting up a funnel like this too, except that I show the OTO's before the initial purchase. Is this good/bad practise? The idea behind this is that they add the OTO to the cart and then pay at once. (just like the McDonalds example "would you like fries with that').

      Free ecourse (pdf) --> OTO#1 ($17) --> OTO#2 ($147) --> OTO#3 ($197)

So if they accept OTO#2, its ADDED to the cart and they see OTO#2. When they accept that one too, it's ADDED to the cart as well, totalling 17+147+197= 361

Does every OTO has it's own downsell?

      Thank you,
      Maurice

I am currently working with this model:

    Squeeze Page ---> OTO page

I used to have this model Squeeze Page --> OTO page ---> Downsell (if they didn't buy the OTO)

It works pretty ok for no.2. Just need to spend time creating another product for the downsell.

Worth it though coz it minimize your spending (you practically generate your lead for free).

      Hey Guys,

      Great discussion!

I'm about to launch a wso, for $7 with 100% commissions to jv's, to help build my list.

My question is the follow-up? Since, I really suck at it and hit a writer's block, when doing my sequence.

Isn't the sales funnel, about building more trust, for "X" amount of days, then send upsell or OTO later or immediately go for the jugular and ask for the upsale?

Don't people get turned off, by upselling the same day or next day...without knowing you or the product they just bought?

I'm working on a 7 day funnel, giving out information about myself, you know, the who, what, where, why, how, experiences. Then plan to introduce my training membership site, as an up sale.

But I'm reading that sales funnels should be designed to upsell (OTO) immediately.

I know e-mail marketing, is the top rated place people buy products from, but, I suck at follow-up. Probably because I feel after writing a script, making a video, uploading, editing/posting the blog, sharing and commenting, on so many sites is overwhelming. And then logging into Aweber and creating an email follow-up sequence is exhausting!

      Does anyone feel like that?
How do you streamline the process?

Anyway, thanks for your sales funnel advice...

They just took their wallet out, so to speak... before they put it back, you definitely ask for the upsell. They've just been convinced that your product was worth their money - they don't need to read it or know you... they already just made that decision

It's not easy getting someone to the point that they're willing to spend their money... when they are in that frame of mind, that's PRECISELY when you should 'strike again' - so to speak.

You'll never have a better opportunity to make a sale than when one was just transacted.

They could be... but it's your job to show them why they shouldn't be. You explain that you just sold them a very low priced item, and it does everything you claimed for it... but if they'd like to speed up the process, here's an add-on that wasn't promised in the original sale - but you can fork over the true value of money to make the process faster, easier, quicker, cheaper, more profitable, etc.

Why not do both? Offer the membership site as an upsell with a discount... then hit them up in the weeks to follow with the full price membership.

You don't. It's a lot of work. The fortunate aspect is that it's generally, and for the most part, done once. When you have your framework in place - there's certainly additional work, but the majority of it is working to make profit for you.

My opinions only... take 'em for what they're worth.

          Thanks Ben!

          Awesome answers!

          Ok, one more question (maybe).

So, would you say, there is a distinction on the type of funnels?

          - Capture page with 'free give-away' to build a list - educate, build trust with subs, then direct to sales page...

          VS

A sales page funnel, to encourage new buyer to upgrade/upsale, and continue offer quality content.

          Correct?

          Great stuff!

I'm not quite sure I follow you. I think we're talking two different funnels... one funnel is the classic free giveaway funnel, and the other is, for example, the funnel that a WSO buyer would go into.

A good funnel, whether from a buyer or a freebie seeker - will immediately try to make a sale (or, as in a WSO, and *ADDITIONAL* sale), and even, an upsell from the sale, and a downsell if they don't want to buy.

In other words... a good funnel is going to IMMEDIATELY try to address the question - do I have a buyer here or not? And if a buyer, let's see how *much* I can sell.

Now yes, a sub who doesn't buy immediately can turn around and buy in the future... but a good funnel might be the only time you see this sub... he may give you a bad email address, or simply never open his emails.

Now, does this sound cynical and 'money-grubbing'?

Yes it does... but if you're offering good products, it's a win-win for everyone.

You can outsource the email followups and have them done for you and out of the way - always an option. Many marketers outsource this - especially when faced with all of the
Work leading up to a launch - you could at least get a few templates and then personalize them with your own personality to accelerate things as well.

My email marketing funnel is currently set up like this:

Squeeze page offerring a freebie ==> One time offer related to freebie priced cheap (around $7) ===> Download page.

Thats been the most successful funnel I've found after experimenting with loads of others.

So many people confuse the terms 'upsell' and 'OTO' that it's no wonder people get confused. Yet, the difference is plain in a single sentence.

Remember, OTO means "One Time Offer", something a new buyer only sees once. It could be a bonus product or an add-on, but at a discount that will never be offered again. That doesn't mean you never offer that bonus or add-on again, it just means that buyers only have one chance to get it at the OTO price.

And, in real life, few people actually stick to the OTO... there's been a few times when I decided I wanted the OTO, and if I couldn't find my way back to the page, I'd just email the product owner.

I don't ever recall being turned down.

Of course, if this becomes public knowledge, then the OTO sales tactic will lose a little of it's power. So forget what you just read...

So how are these funnels technically set up?

So you set up the squeeze page and when someone opt-ins they are taken to the TY Page with Ben's "Bonuses". At this point how are you redirecting them to the OTOs/Upsells/Downsells?

What software are you using for this?

When someone opts in, they are immediately sent to the upsells & downsells.

The bonus page is what they are sent to from the first autoresponder email.

There's no software needed for this - other than an 'exit-pop' script.

So you are using an upsell page instead of a TY page? In Aweber or Getresponse, once someone signs up they are taken to the thank you page. How are you getting people through your upsells/downsells?

Or are you assuming that someone is selling on a platform such as JVZoo, that allows you to do upsells and downsells within their system?

Note: I purchased your fast attack funnel WSO to check it out. I'm working my way through it but figured it would be good to keep this dialogue going as I'm truly interested in your response, plus could be beneficial to others.

            Hey Ben,

Appreciate good advice! This stuff can get confusing.

For example: Setting up a "free offer" >>> OTO Upsell >>> OTO Downsell >>>> Etc.

How do you set up the e-mail messages? Different lists?
Those who 'optin' with "free offer" receive a 7 day email (content/build trust) campaign. Hope to make sale, by the end of sequence. (Seeker list)

What if they "optin" 'free offer', then buy OTO/Upsell?
Do you create a separate list 'buyers'.? If so, what what happens to the 7 day sequence list they are on?

What kind of sequence would you write, if they bought the OTO/Upsell? Ongoing, emails who, what where, how expertise, plus, affiliate offers?

This is what's called the 'nitty gritty"..

            Thanks.
