I saw that MailJet and Sendgrid let you send 1,000,000 newsletters emails per month for about $500 to $700.

Lets say I mined 1,000,000 emails across various sites, Facebook groups, ETC...
Then I paid for a month with one of these providers and send in a newsletter a link to a book to buy.
I would make $6 profit from a $10 book..
So lets say...
1,000,000 people were sent the email and 2% opened the email.
So 20,000 and out of that 10% clicked through.
Now lets say 10% bought the book.
That's 200 buyers at $6 a book so $1200 in sales.
I would double my investment.

Good idea? Thoughts? Anyone else tried this approach?

Sure... and they are either in prison or bankrupt from the fines they are paying.

It's illegal to email someone that you don't have a business relationship with - or that hasn't ASKED you to email them. They have to provide their email address, you cannot legally scrape them.

Don't try to re-invent the wheel - there's far too much information about how to build a list legally and market to them.
