Hello,

Can I build a list from my wedding website?

I'm not building a list thinking that wedding happens just one time in one's life so there is no hope of future business with those subscribers?

What do you think?

I take your point about the temporary nature of the niche itself, though there may perhaps be some other things you can promote (Honeymoon travel? Financial services? Divorce lawyers? ).

I need to build lists to make the initial sale, not just future ones (though I do find that in successful affiliate marketing, most of the long-term income does actually come from making future sales to the same captive audience).

Here's the point: very few people buy anything online at their first visit to its sales page, but if you don't build a list, your traffic's first visit to a sales page is also quite likely to be their last visit.

Opting in a proportion of the traffic should, in principle, enable you significantly to increase your sales.

Just to piggyback on Alexa's comments... There are dozens of products and services newlyweds look for immediately following the wedding. Insurance, all kinds of stuff around that new baby that often arrives, financial planning, home buying, home maintenance... You might consider starting a common sense family oriented newsletter where you'll talk about various life issues and occasionally have ideas and solutions (your affiliate products) that help people solve them. If you do it right you could end up with a real authority site.

Find or create a "How to survive your first year of marriage" course. You could even break it down into monthly installments - "surviving month one", etc.

I'd say that since most married couples are very passionate, and spend a fortune, that maybe it's worth building a list over.

I love the "surviving month XYZ" idea.

It's true though. You could have some type of trigger to initiate when XYZ gets married, then transition them to a totally different sequence.

"How to make your first year of marriage work, when 50% of others fail!" (Using real statistics).

Also remember that people spend insane amounts of cash on marriage, and they're fanatically passionate about this type of stuff haha.

So, maybe there's some good potential? :]

Yes I think you could, but once the wedding is over, those individuals probably will no tbe customers anymore, unless you have past marriage products.
I think you would need to constantly refreshing your list

Also, you could take it further and sell shovels...

What I mean by this is there are many services and products that already sell to weddings. Event planners, wedding venues, caterers, dress makers etc...

If you were to build a list for "wedding planners" you will have them ever green and you can continue selling to them over a long time.

So in other words you will not be building a list in the "wedding couple" niche per se, but in the businesses that already service "weddings" as they will still be around after the wedding is done.

If you can for example sell a course on becoming a wedding planner and continue that relationship throughout the career of the wedding planner then you have a long term list in a niche that you can focus on. No need to go from "which wedding cake to choose" to "finances for your first home purchase".

    So sell "shovels".

Of course you can. You're thinking too narrowly.

Instead of focusing on the wedding itself, develop your business around "the young bride" or "the newlywed" or "the new couple."

Certainly your wedding website can be a part of your business. But so can all the other related topics that have been mentioned above. The sky is the limit!

Well, virtually "any" niche can be used for this list building purpose.

Once you have leads/opt-ins you can always send niche specific offer to the list and start banking.

Your list keeps you in contact with both potential customers and existing customers so you should definitely build a list.

Upon signing up, you can even segment them as such - ie. getting married or already married. That way you can email them more relevant content and craft your pitches accordingly.

You should focuc on b2b market. Try to create a list of potential partners who can help to promote your service. For example, travel agencies, wedding planners, flower shops, wedding boutiques, etc.
