Recommendation: Autoresponders or something else? Free tool for personal project

Not sure where on the internet to go for this answer, but you guys look like a knowledgeable group, so I've become a warrior for the occasion! This is a personal project rather than a marketing issue, but it looks like it could utilize marketing tools.

I want to set up a continuous sequence of pre-scheduled automated emails for myself and a relatively small group of friends and family. (Specifically a chapter-per-day email continuing until there are no more chapters, and then repeating from the beginning.)

Caveats: I want to be able to...

-Schedule the sequence of emails for set intervals rather than set dates (i.e. if someone subscribes they would get chapter one that day and chapter 2 the next, etc.)
-Set it up to continue indefinitely, if possible. i.e. not specific to 2014, or one cycle of chapters
-Something free, as this is just a personal project.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you need to go familiarize yourself with Mailchimp. This would be a perfect application for an autoresponder that I would never ordinarily recommend.

But you aren't doing affiliate marketing, and you'll have a relatively small list - this would be a perfect fit.

Go for Mailchimp and Aweber. Basing on what you want the two tools are useful for your endeavor.

In long term, better use autoresponder service like Aweber, Getresponse and Sendreach. Let them provide technical part and you just worries about broadcast and CASH!

      Alas, no.

Mailchimp's free service hasn't offered that facility (of a scheduled email series, according to the dates on which people subscribe) for some years, now. It's "broadcasts only" (all subscribers get the same email on the same day, regardless of when they subscribed. Not suitable here, clearly.)

Their paid service can handle it, of course, but then so can any autoresponder. So why not use a real, proper, professional one, instead of Mailchimp?

GetResponse ($15 per month) and Aweber ($20 per month) can both do exactly what you need. (So can any other autoresponder, but those two are the widely reputed "market leaders".)

Yes, I have tried MailChimp and found the same thing--broadcasts only, no scheduled email series. Thank you for the recommendations for Getresponse and Aweber, I did some research too and those do look great. Unfortunately this is a profitless project though and I can't really justify spending $ on it monthly.

Any suggestions for tools that are a) not broadcasts only and b) either one-time fee or free? I appreciate all the suggestions thus far.

After some more digging it looks like Listwire may be serviceable. Definitely not the best there is, but I'm only looking for a few features. I'll try it out.
