Hello Everyone: I am starting a book challenge for all of you who want to build your expertise by reading in 2013. Basically, the Facebook Group I'm starting is for those of you who want to read at least 50 books next year. You can join the Facebook Group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/char...bookchallenge/ Here are the rules: So we will call this Charles Harper’s 2013 – 50 Book Challenge Here are the rules: The book must be in the area in which you are working diligently to become either an expert or the best; it should be the area where you are investing your 10,000 hours. When you finish a book, post to the group: Book# Total Number of Books in Your 2013 Goal Brief Summary or What You Learned Your Goodreads link or a Link to the Book (Affiliate links are WELCOME!) Oh, and you are permitted to start TODAY to get yourself a head start. But you can’t have started the book until after you took the challenge. Let me share with you the challenge from Micheal Hiles that he shared with his Facebook friends: Charles Terrence Harper Here is Michael's original post: Want to become a world-renowned expert in your career field? If you read 50 books per year in your field (about a book a week), you'll be an international expert within 5-7 years. I adopted this habit many, many years ago, and it has made all the difference in my life. When the average adult doesn't even read one nonfiction book per year, reading 1000 books in your field will give you so much expertise that you'll always be a hot commodity in any economic situation. If you have no time to read, listen to audiobooks. There are even phone apps and such which permit you to listen at 2x speed. How much knowledge and expertise do you think you'd pick up if you adopted a regular habit of expanding your knowledge into your core area of expertise? So pick a book you'll finish this week, divide the content length by 7 (or 5 if you're doing weekdays only), and digest that much content each day. You'll be a world-class expert in your field before you know it. Make this a lifelong habit. Once you begin it, never quit. And get your friends and family to adopt this habit as well, so they'll always have new book recommendations, insights, and intelligent discourse to share with you. Hope to see you involved here! https://www.facebook.com/groups/char...bookchallenge/ |

This is a great challenge and something everyone should do every year! “You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” – Charles “Tremendous” Jones |

I love love love to read but as my business took off (and I am not complaining) finding quality time even to read is hard to come by. What is particularly interesting is a weird habit I have developed. Because I know I am pressed for time, I end up taking up say around 3 - 5 books at once and read each of them at the same time little by little. Earlier I would digest one book at a time leisurely . Anyone else have this problem? |

This is a great idea but it's already so late in the year! Are you planning on running it again next year? |
