I spent much of Thursday and Friday masterminding and networking out in Hollywood. I met up with several people while out there (even though I was only there for 2 nights) but spent most of my time networking with people attracted to The Rich Jerk's party at The Playboy Mansion. I also met with several clients but couldn't fit in all who were in the area
There was a lot of controversy prior to the event, and like a number of big names, I wasn't sure about attending at first. Not everything surrounding pubicizing the event was the most politically correct.
In watching the build-up to the event, I hoped that those who were upsets by parts of it didn't miss the marketing lesssons. Controvery can be a VERY effective sales tool, but also a tricky one. Many internet marketers that I watch use it, screw it up :-)
The fact that the mastermind session, which WAS a legitimate mastemind session, complete with huge note pads hanging on the walls for jotting down things, and that some extremely valuable ideas and contacts came out of those few hours of intense interaction, made the trip very much worth it to me.
In those 2 days, I set up about 2 dozen semi-firm deals that will have long-range payoffs :-)
Since the party at the Playboy Mansion was part of the package, I did have to think about that, and sell it to my wife. Deciding to attend was a personal choice. Selling it to my wife was as simple as asking her if she wanted to go to Hollywood. I am, after all, a salesman
She loved the Beverly Hilton
She also enjoyed the party, and probably took more pictures with celebrities than I did. Admittedly, I've met enough celebs, star athletes, and politicians in my life that now I just yawn when I see most. Also, since I don't watch a lot of television, I had NO idea who many of them were.
I did instantly recognize Bobby Brown, and even mentioned Whitney to him... then quickly changed the conversation when he didn't smile
Money from the event, and an insane auction out at the mansion, went to charity. When they started rolling out $30,000 autographed lithograph packages at the party, and I saw them going for a fraction of what I was convinced that they were worth, and I could see my wife getting excited, I was happy that I was only drinking Pepsi's and that she'd only had one margarita.
Who knows what we would have brought home?
Then again, it was all to raise money for a very good cause. It was good, clean fun... as proven by photos of some well-known marketers playing around in the pool.
I did get lots of photos (some of which are posted on my blog), and I spent several hours eating some great food and just chatting with the likes of Kern, Filsaime, Moffatt, etc.
A great event, lots of deals made, and lots of money raised for a good cause. I'd say that made it a success. A little on the risque side. However, when the thousands of photos taken at the event start circulating, I'm sure that the next such event will have several thousand attendees.
I have at least 4 more live events that I plan on attending between now and November, and am considering 4-5 more. The reason is that they ARE where I sit down with people and take the time to listen to them, study their body language, and actually get to know them better. That makes me more comfortable when we're discussing six and seven-figure projects.
Keep your eyes peeled for photos from a fantastic masterminding and charity event to start showing up on the blogs of potentially hundreds of blogs and MySpace pages :-)

Hi Willie,
Thanks for the trip report!
I was wondering who would be first to bring this subject back in the lime lite.
Comming from you makes it a lot eaiser to swallow.
Sounds like your wife and you had a great time and you were able to make the trip worth while by networking with others.
Guess i'll have to visit your blog to see the photos!
Have a Great Day! Michael |

I'll let the other marketers share what they want to. The party was set up to be fun, but I didn't see anyone doing anything really STUPID. Then again, the party was spread out over several acres! I toured the ground while there... and "Heff" does have some interesting collections... really strange birds, lizards, a game room that I'm sure would make Yanik jealous ...
Several attendees did remark to me that they felt "safer" when they saw my wife and I there. Actually, many of the attendees were their with their significant others.
I did get photos with the DJ... "who happened to be nude" and with several girls clad only in body paint. My wife insisted... and snapped the photos
When we get on the topic of values, morality, etc.... which wasn't what the event was about, but did play into it in many peoples minds, you get off into the arena of personal choice... and personal interpretation of things. We all see the world through different lenses. I choose not to questions so much what you see, since I consider my vision clear... although from time to time, it will be pointed out that I didn't realize I was wearing tinted lenses
It was time well-spent!

I've been sworn to secrecy, so the only thing I can share is that I saw "Sal The Sitestealer's" official "Plumbers License" in the pool.
What a pretty site.
His wife Andrea is one lucky gal.
It was very nice to finally meet you in person Willie, and your beautiful wife Nancy. She was very adorable and a good sport.
You are one lucky man.

I would love to be a part of that if others show the same interest.

Willie, I think it takes guts for a well-known, upstanding family guy like yourself to be the first to post anything about the event. It was good to chat with you and your wife. You guys worked the red carpet like pros!
I'm sure others will have their lips sealed. I've already been asked by a few people to edit/delete their video testimonials from the party for obvious reasons. But regardless, the feedback from the mastermind itself was unbelievable.
The whole thing went off without a hitch, and I can't tell you how many people told me it was the most amazing night of their lives. Looks like we've got our work cut out for us for next year.
Glad to hear you were able to swing some deals too. Too bad controversy scares some people away from making a lot of money. But hey, thats more money for us. ;-)

If you didn't make it for whatever reason, you TOTALLY MISSED OUT.
For real.
No hype, its just the truth.
RJ and his team OVERdelivered on this one.
The whole event was all that and THEN SOME... everyone had a blast, and other than that, I'm afraid I really can't really comment too much on what else happened.

It was a lot of fun and my wife and I LOVED the red carpet. Nice touch.
Who says you can't have fun while conducting business?
As soon as the word gets out, we will have more "family oriented people" wanting to join next time.
Hopefully, I'll stay off of the "uninvited" list

I do have one being planned Cyndi. There are at least a dozen Warriors within 30 minutes of us.
I'll let you know when we get something semi-organized.
There was a thread on this topic... Warrior gatherings in general... that I couldn't find

Hey Gary, It sounds like we just need to pick the place. Why not email me with a few suggestions of places that you like... anywhere from Destin to Pensacola, and I can check a few of them out too.
I'm almost ready to move forward with the offer that you made me too. I need a few days but we can discuss that via email or phone in a few days

Just to throw this in really quick: The event and party were both absolutely AWESOME!.
I think that everyone benefited from the business and had a blast at the party. Great event guys!
This was my first internet marketing live event and I must say that I will definitely be attending more sessions like this.
It was nice to meet some of you for the first time. I can't wait to get the chance to do something similar again.
Can you say, "ANNUAL RJ PLAYBOY PARTY?"

My whole party had a blast. For those who want some pictures I decided to include a couple of the tamer ones here:-p
Here's the rundown:
RJ was gracious enough to invite me and my partners Mystery and Matador from the new VH1 show "the Pick-Up Artist" to the event:
http://www.area51lifestyle.com/mikelongmysterymatador.jpg
He even let me bring a date, Jessica:
http://www.area51lifestyle.com/mikelongjessicahollies.jpg
We all had a killer time and I've got to agree with Miz on this one - over delivery is an understatement.
I even finally got to meet Willie's better half. :-)
Mike Long
P.S. Quote of the night from a very famous Warrior who shall remain forever "Mr X" (unless he messes with me!;-p):
Question for "Mr X" "Are you having a good time, Mr X?"
Answer for Mike Long: "Would I be walking around in my boxer shorts if I weren't having a good time?" |

Hi Mike,
You mean Mr. Adwords Black Book was wandering around in his 'shreddies'? I don't think Mr. X is the best choice for anonymity in this environment. There's about 50 Mr. X's in IM.
PS Is she tall or are you not that tall? |

Actually Mr. X just really gets around. I heard he did some kind of adwords black book - and that he spoke at several seminars recently;-)
