Now, I'm no literary giant. I've never read Jame's Joyce's Finnegans Wake but I had heard of the title before, of course.
James Joyce is one of those authors that wanna-be-intellectuals talk about in their mutual-admiration-clubs.
Last night...
I was speaking with the most controversial man in Internet Marketing. He asked if I had ever noticed that there wasn't an apostrophe in the title Finnegans Wake. I hadn't. I didn't see much how I could care less, quite frankly.
Why should I care?
Well, it turns out there is an interesting Marketing lesson to be learned.
Did you know that in his day James Joyce was a best-selling author? That made me think. There was an era where James Joyce was pulp fiction.
Not only that, but James Joyce was infuriated because a friend of his solved his contest before the book was launched.
James Joyce did a book launch? yes.
James Joyce circulated his manuscript prior to publication and asked literary friends to guess the title and somebody did guess.
They guessed "Finnegans Wake"
AND...
the guesser knew well enough to leave off the apostrophe.
Now, do you know who the correct guesser was?
This will really spook you.
All the best,
Ken

Was it James Joyce's schizophrenic alter ego? That would kind of be cheating.
