Hi Warriors,

I really like this forum. I come here a lot to learn and, when possible, to give back.

Well today is a day to give back.

If you have your own website and want a cool way to display your images or even other websites...

Check out an article that I wrote exclusively for Warriors:

http://www.jasonandersononline.com/promo/warrior.htm">http://www.jasonandersononline.com/promo/warrior.htm

Nothing for sale. Just something that may help you with your promotion efforts. That's what this forum is all about and I thought I'd share something that may be of some value to you.

Thanks Warriors.

I'm glad you guys like it!

When I was making the page for you Warriors to see, I wanted to make sure that it wouldn't be confused with "shameless" self promotion. It's not.

I just wanted to share something of value here. Thankfully, you recognize that.

Jason,
thanks for sharing.

The thing I really liked was your signup page, specifically the line - any signup bonus: Nope!

Put a smile on my face, nice to see someone operating from a stance of quality.

Paul.

Depends on your html skill level.

For me, the installation guide wasn't crystal clear and I had to experiment a little to get it to work...but it's not "difficult".

I did find that if you have other javascript on your page already it may not work. I created the demo page from scratch and everything worked great.

Jason, while I appreciate your efforts and offer of help, it is still very
easy to see the affiliate link. I'm not going to say how on an open forum
but I thought that you should know that while the page URL doesn't change, I
can still see the affiliate link.

If you want to know how, PM me and I will explain and then you can make
additional changes to prevent this from happening.

No need Steve. I already know that.

If someone really wants to see what the link is, they can just look at the source code. Or, when you mouse over the link, the hyperlink will show in the bottom left corner in your browser like all hyperlinks do.

If you really want to "cloak" the URL, you could create a simple redirect page using this html:

<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://www.youraffiliatelink.com">;
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>

Rename the document "redirect.html" and upload it to your server....

Then point the URL to redirect.html. This will then show in the bottom left hand side of your browser as:

http://www.yoursite.com/redirect.html

Now...

If someone REALLY wants to check out the source code of redirect.html, they would have to manually type in the link, view the source code and then manually retype the URL without the affiliate link if they really wanted to go to the page without using the affiliate link.

So, it's not "cheat proof".

Then again, if someone goes through all that trouble just to avoid giving me a commission...I say go ahead.

That's not the point of the demo page. Which is why I didn't bother to take the time to make a redirect page for demo purposes.

The point is, it's a way to show graphics and URL's in a nice way and keep visitors on your site without redirecting them away to another site.

That's why I named this thread "Cool Graphics Trick And How To Do It"

Here's the link again if you are reading this thread for the first time:

Hi Jason

Nice looking program, thanks for sharing.

This might sound dumb, but how do you get back to the original page being viewed. I had to exit and click the link again.

I could be missing something here.

If you guys really like the script, don't forget the creator....

I provided a download link on my server and you can get it on the demo page but I did this because the server was down to the place I downloaded it from. Once you get the script, there are html documents in the zip. Open the main page and you will see a link to the creator's main page.

I think there is a donate button there. Send your $5, $10, $25, or what ever you feel is appropriate to the creator of the script. I'm sure he/she will appreciate it.

Using the "Lightbox" feature on your site can provide a nice effect. I've toyed with it on a few of my sites and they work well.

There are also other versions of this script. The ones that were most interesting to me were the plug-ins for Wordpress.

So, here are a couple of plug-ins for those who use Wordpress:

http://grupenet.com/2007/08/03/wp-lytebox/">Wordpress Lytebox
http://zeo.unic.net.my/notes/wp-lightbox-js-wordpress-plugin/">WP lightbox

Note: I've had a couple of issues with these plug-ins where they did not work with certain themes (could have been conflicting with other plug-ins).

All the best,

/Steven

Jason,

I like this effect and in fact use it on one of my sites to present video and PDF files. Using it to cloak affiliate links is a terrific idea.

Nice work.

Hmm...

PDF files? Now that's a good idea that I didn't think of. Brilliant.

I just uploaded an example PDF on the demo page near the bottom to demonstrate how that would work too.

Again, here's the link to the demo page:

http://www.jasonandersononline.com/promo/warrior.htm

Thanks Mike...

Oh, and thanks Josh Anderson for the PDF to use on the demo site.

Anybody else see any other uses they can use this script for?

Evita,

It would be really simple. All you do is upload your video to your web page as normal. Then have the Grey Box open that site...just like the examples I show on the demo page.

Evita,

I can't show my samples yet - product not released - but here's where I got the script from:

http://www.stickmanlabs.com/lightwindow/

It shows a bunch of uses in their demo. On the PDF, they use Flash Paper by Adobe. It converts documents into a flash file. Wait til you see the demo...it's sweet. I bought Flash Paper on the spot.

Mike

P.S. The guy gives this script away, but accepts donations. If anyone uses this, be sure to donate.

Hey Jason,

Thanks for sharing that, I have some ideas for how to use it ticking over in my head.

And yeah I like Flashpaper too, I used it on a site a couple of years ago to present a map of the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) here in the UK. It looked really cool!

And then I forgot all about it... Flashpaper that is.

But hey, I've just had the biggest belly laugh in ages (okay it was one of those weird incredulous titters you accidentally do sometimes - er, maybe that's just me). I showed my wife and she started to laugh too.

We looked the word up just to make sure there wasn't another meaning other than the one we were laughing at, and sure enough I feel more confident to share it here now.

What is it?

Well. In the PDF example you've put on your demo page, take a look at page 6.

There's a couple of paragraphs in there with a word that we think was supposed to say "conscience", but the word "continence" was used instead...

I don't think that was actually the intent meant there.

It's a shame as it spoilt some really good copy - well I was enjoying it anyway.

So anyway, back OT. Nice little script, if the licencing allows it, I'll see if I can't get it integrated in some of my own stuff.

And thanks again!

Cheers,

Frank.

Frank,

Thanks for pointing that out.

Now I'm belly aching from that too. Boy that was funny.

Can't take credit for it though. I used a report from Josh Anderson to use as an example on the demo page...I didn't write that.

If you took it literally, he was saying that you should have listened to your own "sh%t" from the beginning....thanks for pointing that out Frank!

I'm still laughing as I write this.

Someone really should tell Josh.

Na.....

We're not related but if we were brothers he'd be the brother with the "money" and I'd be the brother with the "looks".

Ah! A new poll....

Who here thinks Josh Anderson is a handsome man?????
