Is this a saleable website?

Hi,

I'm new to Warrior (new to affilliate marketing also).

Just wondered if the following is saleable. I have the domain 50 Shades of Grey Movie | Website for the movie based on the international best seller. The website is not set up as of yet but I imagined having maybe amazon links to 50shades merchandise; books, t shirts, movie merch etc.

Do you think this would be a saleable website as-is? Obviously, this has not generated any profits or traffic but the keywords '50 shades of grey uk' are getting more and more searches with the movie due to be released on Valentine's day.

Any help/advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks

One way to capitalize on product selling online is to do what you have done here: Creating a domain and website surrounding a popular trend. If you are going to stand any chance of profiting from this site, though, you need to act fast to create the site, add relevant products and content, get your site indexed, and start selling. The window is very short since we're only 2 1/2 weeks away from Valentine, and any search terms related to the movie are likely to decline pretty quickly after that.

If you need any help in how to do any of the above, there are multiple threads you can study on this forum. If you have more questions, keep asking but make sure you are specific with your questions so that people here can best know how to answer.

      Thanks Chris.

The problem I'm facing at the moment is I've been declined twice for an Amazon affiliate account. Even if I was accepted, I'm only just learning about SEO, backlinks etc. so I'd find it hard to get all the products listed on the site. I'm just wondering if the website is saleable as-is? I'm quite realistic, the domain only cost a few quid (around £8) so anything I made on top of that for the sale of the domain would be great.

      Thanks again

You can try to sell the domain to someone that doesn't know about trademarks or copyright infringement, I'm being sarcastic here. Also that's probably why you got declined by Amazon because of the trademark. When purchasing domains you really want to try to stay away from Trademarks, because it can hurt your business plan in the future and a lot of people wont even look at purchasing the domain or website if you try to resell.

          Thanks Clintin,

I didn't use that domain when signing up for an Amazon account. However, I've just been approved an Ebay affiliate account for that domain.

Would you recommend setting up the site to sell merch and receive money from ebay or would it be worth trying to sell the domain?

I wouldn't want to sell it to someone and them have it taken off them and be out of pocket.

          Thanks

Do both, also keep trying to get into Amazon if that's what you want to do. On the other hand you could sell merchandise on the site and put it up for sale on Flippa. If you get an offer from someone that wants the domain or the site go head and sell it.

That's a good way to get yourself into trouble, and to burn bridges at the same time. Besides, its effectively taking advantage of someone and stealing their money.

I would HIGHLY recommend not doing this.

As far as whether the website is sellable, you are going to run into a problem that the movie will have a limited shelf-life. Because of this, buyers won't bet long on the site, and thus won't pay a premium. They will want a discount in order to ensure a profit.

So yes, you can sell it, but don't expect to sell it for more than you could make on your own.

I don't see it taken advantage of someone because if you put it up for sale someone will most likely purchase it.

Now a domain is only worth what a person is willing to pay. I wouldn't pay anything for the domain, but someone that is looking for a website or a quick turn around will, also someone that doesn't know anything about trademarks will purchase but I said sarcastically.

You told the OP, that you would HIGHLY recommend not doing this.

If you're thinking about selling then you may get better results if you build a website (store if you want) and sell the domain and website.

That is true. I've sold websites that dealt with movies in the past and they usually only sell for few hundreds because traffic starts declining after a few months, also serious buyers will want to see how much the site made the month, week and days before they purchase.

What I was referring to was selling a website to someone who "doesn't know about trademarks or copyright infringement". That's taking advantage of their ignorance on that topic when you know it could mean a bad investment for them based on their lack of knowledge. I didn't pick up on your sarcasm there.

The advice about selling it at all was more focused on selling a movie themed, or any short-lived event, website.

Another example would be any website that focuses on the 2016 elections. You would have exactly the same problem.

Because of the time factor speed is key here. I'd put a splash page pointing to everything else and keep the name then giveaway an ebook pointing to the history of ebooks kindle self publishing world of print etc future of publishing etc point to the movie global related then to your fifty shades of grey template or other and capture all those targeted emails first since the limitations on time - upon us and nowness
