    Hi Stefan,

Those websites are definitely very useful when trying to evaluate a websites worth. But this can be a tricky task.

I like to look at things like traffic metrics, and estimated adwords earnings.

Thanks for the excellent resources. I wanted to know if these online so called 'website value' tools any good? Do you think online tools like siteworthchecker.com (and there are tons like it) are any good in this regard? Are their valuations even in the ballpark?

    Thanks again!

these tools are only good for getting a free backlink, i used most of them to get quick backlink.also it gives soem kindl of mental relief to see if your site worth is increasing if you check after two or three months after your first evaluation.

Do you know the Horatio formula? This formula uses a mathematical algorithm that evaluates the domain name. The results are very good. Note: it is assessed only the domain name, not the project.
        Here you can test it.

I get a page in Danish... Can't figure out the valuation. it says "3.200" Euros. Is that 3.2 or 3,200? Anything in English or French?

Usually this would mean 3,200 Euros. I just tried this out myself and am getting numbers like 2000-3500 Euros. There is no comma or period.

I would really hesitate to use sites like this that just spit out a number and would be doing more research myself before relying on that.

If it's an adsense site, you can sell it in 18x Monthly revenue

If it's an affiliate site, it's better to keep it quite near to 12x Monthly revenue.

However if you think that your site is more valuable than any of the above, you should talk to a broker to get top dollar.

When it comes to an established, profitable website...the value is typically based on a multiple of net monthly profit.

The domain name on its own rarely comes into play and it doesn't typically add to the valuation.

How much would that website be making if it did NOT use the domain it was using? Great - ok, then the domain value is already calculated into the value of the website through earnings. (As those earnings wouldn't be as much WITHOUT the domain)

It's not perfect, but we've created a website valuation tool you can use to get a fairly accurate valuation on your website or online business.

This is best used for sites earning anywhere from $100 - $50K per month. More than that and you're likely looking at larger multiples, strategic value, etc. and need to speak to someone who can dig into the details.

This isn't some random tool we created - we use it to value, list, and sell websites through our platform.

I'd have to respectfully disagree. The domain name itself is a huge part of the valuation. And this is part of the problem in most of these comments. A domain name by itself is worth something so it is part of the valuation. Also a website that makes X amount per month on something.biz and a website on something.com would be a huge difference wouldn't it? Also, domain names play their part in SEO, both in regards to its history, subject matter(ranking keywords), page rank, trustworthiness etc.

Also I know I'm arguing the system here but valuation is not based on net monthly profit as a rule either. If I'm in the market of blue widgets and I find a website for sale selling red widgets then that website is worth a lot to me isn't it? If its valuation is low based on your metrics then the seller is at a disadvantage aren't they?

My point is the sale of websites in their entirety is actually seller vs buyer. Information vs stats and none of what you describe here. As a buyer your best weapon is common sense and research done by yourself not by someone else with an agenda.

  • To many have tricked traffic to a website. They have built up adsense or other small e-book sales. But once they remove the site from their very active backbone of sites including social, it can go flat quick. So evals are tricky, domains should have 2-3 years of activity and a strong following. With just the domain name, the name can matter but many of those worthy domains are held by folks that are holding on to a big dollar. So eval your site at $30k but then try selling it, unless there is history.

At the end of the day, domain names are worth more to person who is buying the domain, weather its .com or .co.uk or new TLD's, its down to buyer.

Online value sites do not give the value. Its down to person buy it and what value they put on the domain.

backlinks are good to value domain, but do you need to clean up the backlinks because the domain has different focus.

The main value domain names are single words like Mummy, Daddy, Steam or two letter domain names. If you own a great word as domain name that's the value.

I have sold many domain names, the value has always been down to buyer.

I use Sedo to sell my domains

    I agree with jamesi

These links have a pretty cool domain name but selecting domain is a tricky thing.
I would look for following things:
    1. Traffic
    2. Current ranking on ALEXA
    3. Quality standard along with Search engine
    4. And PR

This will be my expected thing while buying running domain.

Domain pricing as the above tips say depend on lots of notions. A domain in the first place has its fixed value. Domain names are a source of online identity for any company. Therefore, getting a domain that fully brands the company online will cost a different amount especially when getting it from the second party.
One thing I have noticed is that people have started misusing such like opportunities. After finding out that there is a big company that lacks online presence, they run to register a domain at a very low cost and will later resale at a very high cost.

It cannot be aid that how much you have to pay for a website, it depends which domain name you choose with the high or low price with many different kinds, then renting a host for your site also have different price, so you should wonder that how much you can spend on a Website to manage and find the best way to create suitable website. If you are evaluating a website or domain to buy it then be very careful as many people have created or directed traffic from various sources that gives an inflated value of the domain rather than its actual worth. Once the sale is done and the website or domain is removed from the channels that brought it the traffic its rank and worth goes to virtual zero.

Guys make sure you are are also careful to which sites you keep submitting your links for indexation as some site value check tools are very bad and horrible when it comes to damaging your sites popularity as Google will see that you are submitting your site to these tools for value check and a lot of people do that in order to get indexed and get backlinks from many of these sites
