First attempt at selling a domain with Freemarket

I have got to say, i am a bit discouraged with freemarket. Not because of anything i have experienced personally YET. Just simply all the bad reviews and people complaining.

I paid for the 30$ Featured ad listing.. Lets see where it gets me.

I have yet to see someone post about freemarket and have actual success. All though i haven't looked very hard. I will be updating my thread and letting everyone know my experiance.

I noticed a domain "payment.com" For $10 Million and has more then 1 bid... Is this a hoax?

Update: 9/19/2014

No success with selling on freemarket.com, It has only been a day.. Not much to update on. I don't see very much bidding going on though so it does concern me.

Update: 9/20/2014
Reduced price.
I paid the 45$ for premium listing. Growing very disappointed with freemarket.. More replies and hits off flippa so far.

Update: 9/28/2014
I wish they offered refunds! I adjusted price, edited my topic. Still NOTHING. Maybe it is the domain I am trying to sell, maybe it is my inability to just sit and wait and why i shouldn't attempt to sell a domain in the first place. Either way I am not impressed with "Freemarket" in the slightest!

  • I think there are in general (not just freemarket.com) sellers then buyers and there are like 1000 new TLD's imagine if just 50,000 sellers all buy 100+ domains it's going to be a flood. I'm not sure if this is true but there are so much seller and a buyer can get a brand new domain easy.

Honestly, Freemarket is way too undeveloped and underpromoted to invest any actual money into. I only listed a few domains because it was free, but I wouldn't pay for any enhancements until it has become a serious competitor to Flippa, and I don't mean serious WF buyers, because the majority of them are just looking for cheap stuff.

I couldn't agree more with your post. I have grown very disappointed with "Freemarket" I figured I would have at least ONE bite..

Looking on the positive side of things rather than being a "Downer Debbie" I obtained a lot of knowledge with my first attempt at selling a domain. I don't think it's quite my cup of tea.. But, I can see how someone else would be able to make a good living. Like i stated, Just not my cup of tea.

The turn-off is something I pointed out before - namely, too many ridiculous BINs in the tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands dollar range filling up the first page. The average buyer from Flippa sees that, they're gone.

Did you guys do any market research at all before you decided to set things up like this? Who is your target customer - Donald Trump?

No, I already asked Donald Trump... He wasn't interested unfortunately.
All sarcasm aside, This was my first attempt at selling a domain name EVER. I honestly never really thought I would make much money doing it. Turns out i was correct. Flipping domains just isn't my cup of tea. I would much rather stick to what I know.

What little knowledge I have obtained about flipping domains... Freemarket is not the place to be doing it. Least not until they make a lot of changes.

I think the free listing option will flood the website with too many ridiculous website offers. As a buyer, it would be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff resulting in disappointment for both buyers and sellers.

Not "will" It HAS flooded Freemarket, I personally just have acquired a bad taste for Freemarket.

Hey SkyJarman - sorry to hear that you feel this way. We are still quite new in dealing with these issues on the site, however we are determined to make Freemarket great and will be actively tackling these issues going forward.

      I agree with you 100%

As other experienced members have predicted. It is flooded and needs serious changes in order to even think about competing with Flippa.

The point: Is there must be somebody who wants a domain that has a certain quality or certain qualities. The person must look for such a domain with the given quality or qualities. The person must know about where and how to search, or find somebody to do what it takes. It is useless to feature anything anywhere. The people who need a domain get lists of domains matching their search requests in databases from companies, forums, etc. etc. and all of us. Above the domain name (SLD) factor there is the domain extension (TLD) factor. I personally believe in .com, .net and .org + Country extensions as I publish at ComsOnly.com. Do not despair, but better not wait for a sale. Get Your income from something else unless You have pocket money to play with. Success!
