I wanted to say that ranking a video is much like ranking a website or a blog.
It is way easier if you have the fundamentals in place, ALL of my vids hold top ranking thumbnails on page #1. Why? Something I call "On YouTube Optimization"
The search engines cannot "see" your video. They rely on TITLE. Description, and TAGS.
I have a few vids in easy comp niches that bring in thousands per year. And this is set and forget.
