Hey fellow WW,
I'm hoping to shake-up some discussion...

Do you think Women Marketers differ from men? Are we better or worse at certain aspects of online marketing? Do we bring something unique to the table?

Sometimes I find this whole online marketing thing super male oriented. I even found tweets that linked to showing men how to sell to women...Why are they selling to women? Shouldn't that be us??

From my experience as an Internet Marketer and Consultant, I think that men and women do have different, but equal strengths in this arena... I feel that men are stronger in the technical - (coding, SEO, etc) while females run with account management and the marketing side of the things...

Depending on the individual, both appear to do well with sales and design....I think the male IM perception is strongly found due to the overwhelming amount of folks seen (and heard) in the technical side. The "techies" are the creators and developers and I think that's where women get overshadowed...

Anyway, that's my take!

I think that some women are too easily intimidated. The guys just do it while the women seem more cautious and detail oriented. Surefire likelihood of information overload if you are too concerned about the nitty gritty.

I'm going to strongly disagree with some points made here. Men are not stronger at the technical stuff, I do a lot of techy stuff for a lot of ~ for want of a better expression, "male members here" LOL - some of them really don't have a clue!

I think Men get perceived as being better because they don't mind shouting about their accomplishments, whereas us women tend to be more discreet about our acheivements.

And yes, greatdanetraining (big dog! great dane) women are too easily intimidated, unless of course you've got a great dane.

One guy I do a lot of Techie work for, great guy by the way, just said to me, I don't want to know how it works, just make me a button! (meaning get it there get a paypal button on it and let me take the sales!) couldn't fault his reasoning.

So the top an bottom of a long winded answer is, don't worry what strengths or weaknesses you feel you have, just make sure you have enough payment buttons on your sites that work.

If you don't have the skill to make something happen that you want to happen, outsource it so someone who has.

Great subject. I want to add my two cents which may only be worth 2 cents since I am new to IM. My experiences are limited and involve age differences as well as sex differences. I am 54 and my son is 13. I definately get caught up in details and hesitate WAY more than my son does. I recognize that he has a HUGE advantage over me in that way. However, I know as it becomes second nature to me I will be way better about taking action quickly.

I agree with the majority of points made here. I find it interesting when men market to men assuming only men are going to be interested in what they sell. I don't agree that women only should market and sell to women....I want men to buy from me depending on what I am offering.

I do feel that we have some unique insight to women and they are the main spenders of the household when it comes to many items. Buying is an emotional decision and if we are able to tap into that and provide real value, the magic will follow.

In any event, both men and women are either moving towards pleasure or away from pain and we just have to provide what they want as opposed to need.

I think the fact that maybe there are so many men doing IM is that they have had the time to study it uninterupted. When starting out there is sooo much to take in that it tends to overload and it requires your full attention and if you have a family and a job to do it leaves little time for the study involved. However once there I think woman are more patient and have a flair for sales. Definetley the men have one up on most of us on the technical side but I think we will see more and more woman making a great success of IM.. Go get em Gals!

I have to disagree with the statement men are more technical than women. I had a 25 year career as a software/hardware installer who scored a 98 on the IBM programmers' test and was the only female installer for a number of years. I don't say this to brag.

I simply say it to show that women are indeed very intelligent. I think we tend to be less risk takers at times. It tends to be what I believe is a cultural subconscious programming thing.

I remember when women weren't suppose to touch power tools because they would get hurt. Well isn't a mixer a power tool. Also women weren't suppose to be good with math. Well what are recipes all about. Measurements and conversions. I strongly believe women can accomplish anything they want to accomplish if they have the right attitude!!

I do know from personal experience that women are better at multitasking than men. We wouldn't be able to do what we do with families and kids if we couldn't. Makes me chuckle every time I hear a male mentor say only work on one thing at a time. But we'll keep that our little secret
