Is it a good idea to attract visitors with a freebie?

I sell resume templates and I'm trying to get out there and get more traffic. I offer few freebies such as resume writing guide and job application tracker but I guess they don't interest people much.

What do you guys think about me creating a resume template freebie, do you think it's bad for business since I sell them?

So when offering a free version of my product would the pros be better than the cons? I've heard that the freebie downloaders rarely become customers but then again was thinking that if I get more visitors and backlinks to my site I could rank better and get buyers that way.

In return should I ask for social share or email opt in to unlock the freebie? I sure want something in return...

I would appreciate any tips and advice on how to go about this.

Thanks!

They say that "Money is in the list". Building a list is always a good idea. It is almost required if your traffic is cold. Yes there are some freebie hunters that have no interest to buy but I would say they are a minority.

To decide on your lead bait you have to do a little research and split test multiple gifts. Don't be afraid to give away great value and make sure you have a complementary paid offer to go with it.

In your email sequence you have to continue to offer advice and great value. That way those that stay subscribed are interested in what you offer and will buy from you. Maybe not from the first time, but maybe at one point you offer a bundle or a 50% off promotion and they will buy.

    Good luck!

Your 'freebie' is an asset. One of the greatest asset controls is called 'leverage', which means that it could be potentially valuable to give away, depending on how much control you have over its profitability.

Consider the type of people who will participate in receiving a free product. It could potentially have a strong influence on your audience to view your material again, invite people to check it out, or even buy more of your products.

At the same time, this can be accomplished with something of relatively little value.

It all depends on how you use it, what its message is, and how it resonates with your audience.

Absolutely! I encourage all my affiliates to give out freebies (e.g. a free pdf report or an email mini-course) in return for an email opt-in; and subsequently using the freebie itself and follow up emails to sell to the person.

Absolutely. Audiences love free stuffs especially if these are of good value. You can tweak your landing page and make it an opt-in in order for audiences to sign-up to your list. The crucial point however is to keep their interests in a high level and also develop a need when it comes to buying your product when reading your emails. Again, the key here is good content and consistency.

Also, social media promotions is a good way to drive traffic going to your opt-in landing page. Goodluck on your venture.

It's a great idea to offer a freebie for an email address. This way you build your list and, even if those people don't buy something at the moment, they will at a certain point. Make sure to put a great content strategy in place if you want to rank better in Google and also attract more visitors.

Thank you all so much for responding. I'll go ahead and give the freebie a try and see how it goes. Now it's matter of creating a killer landing page and email campaign.

Further tips and advice is of course welcome

Ofcourse freebie is a good idea for driving potential customers. I agree with all previous mates. More than freebie, I would like to suggest few other tips for boosting sales.
1: Increase the number of templates in your treasure. People need a range for choosing their favorite one.
2: You should find out 10 to 20 coaching centre website theme or template and also find out few recruitment consultance website templates or theme. Contact the design agency or freelance designers and approach them. You can suggest your template as an add-on to their product. Customers who are buying their templates can also buy your template.

    Most definitely,

You consumer thinks if your freebie is great, then your paid stuff must be awesome.
Freebie seekers are mainly an issue in the make money online niche.

Offer free template, they must share to unlock the download/or email optin, then they download it redirect them to offer a special package, i.e all the templates for a $299, or similar offer.

Ascend quick and early is what Dan Kennedy would probably tell you. And then never stop offering higher ticket offers. Your ideas to give away the template for a social media mention or something else small are good ones to test out.

Let go of the idea that giving away a freebie would be bad for your business.

And yes, the freebies you are currently offering are not very appealing "job offer tracker" (it's obsolete thanks to the multiple free offers in the market) and a "resume writing guide" (doesn't really have value in your particular case, they don't want that - consumes time, etc).

Now, a freebie is great, can be a great way to build a list and convert. But, if I were in your shoes, and confident about the value of the product, I would sell the templates you want to give away for free for a ridiculously low price they couldn't resist while still getting their contact information.

Believe it or not, when the product is great to back it up, this is a much more effective strategy.

Freebies provide an awesome resource for people to click on your links and opt-into whatever business opportunity or promotions you may be promoting.

Who doesn't love a freebie, I think it is a great way to engage. So long as the freebie fits your target market and is relevant it's a great idea.
