    Hi smolodoy,

    A high bounce rate isn't necessarily a bad thing. It could simply mean that your users are finding everything they need on the first page they visit on your website. Don't make your bounce rate into a goal, it is a metric to be used for diagnostic purposes only.

    Bounce Rates Make Poor Goals

    Use your bounce rate as it was intended, as a diagnostic metric to help you understand what is going on, don't try to lower bounce rates just for the sake of having a lower bounce rate, that is a common trap that people new to web marketing data analysis often fall into in error.

    There are many landing pages that perform very well with a 90% bounce rate, this is especially true for SPA (Single Page Apps). Instead use the bounce rate a diagnostic tool to better understand what is is happening, then set about the task of understanding why bounces are occurring and address the actual issue, if it is indeed an issue at all.

    Introduce Interactive Elements

    The introduction of interactive page elements and event tracking scripts can help you get a much clearer picture of user behavior after they land on your web page. Add interactive widgets, buttons, forms, etc. session timing event scripts, and scroll depth tracking scripts to encourage engagement and measure events. This will reduce overall bounce rates but more importantly provide better diagnostic data that will tell you more specifically how users are engaging and may point to specific issues that you can fix.

    For example, you could add this code snippet to a web page to fire an even every 30 seconds to let Google Analytics know users are still on the page, perhaps reading away.
    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
      var _gaq = _gaq || [];
      _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXXX-1']);
      _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);
      setTimeout("_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', '30_seconds', 'read'])",30000);
      (function() {
        var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true;
        ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
        var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);
      })();
    </script>
    Note: replace "UA-XXXXXXX-1" with your actual Google Analytics Tracking ID.

    This will give you a bit more accurate session duration and a bounce rate based on people that leave before viewing your page for fewer than 30 seconds. You might discover people are staying longer than you think.

    Here's a link to a Google Analytics scroll depth Tracking plugin script that you might find useful:

    Do you have a 1-page website.. does your message come quickly "within the fold".. if not these can become issues for your bounce rate being so high.

    HOWEVER!

    High bounce rates don't mean bad sites, bad traffic or that you won't profit..

    It just means they come, they see, they understand/don't and leave..

    What's left to get is.. A) the visitors information (email) so that you can follow up and B) setup a retargeting campaign to get visitors to see you a second time and increase your ROI

    That's my tip.. it's not that your bounce-rate is an issue.. but are you getting leads?

    Either you should make the traffic coming to your wesbiet more relevant, or your website more interesting to the traffic! How? By including intersting infographics, videos, presentations etc. which encourage the viewers participation. Especially slideshows are great because the people can actively click through them and stay involved.

  • If you're using copy, the headline is absolutely critical. If you're using audio or video the initial hook takes the place of the headline. Using curiosity is excellent. But it needs to actually be interesting.

    If you get this right, you'll see your bounce rate plummet. That's been my experience...

    The bounce rate was no concern for us at Space-O Technologies before this month.

    But suddenly this month our bounce rate has increased from 40% to 81%.

    So most of our team members are working on this issue.

    Basically, there are many points which can impact your bounce rate. I learned a lot out of this video by Bill Parlaman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQxZxCxFcpQ It helped.

    The current bounce rate is around 52%.

    Here is the image.

  • You need to improve your engagement element on your website. First of all improve your quality of content, add attractive graphics, images or add videos to make your visitors stay for a longer duration. Improve your website layout, if its not responsive then make it responsive.

    To lower bounce rate you should have a content that your users will need to read later, or login and do something periodically on your site. If your site not that kind, if you don't update your site daily, you can ignore the bounce rate.

    I dont know if you still follow this thread or not, I am posting as I am new and just saw this as interesting :

    1. Read on "on page seo" techniques from various blogs available online like that of brian dean's backlinko.com.
    2. After getting your page optimized as per google, you can start creating content as per the customer, not as per google bot.
    3. Try to optimize the above fold criteria of your page.
    4. enlist reviews of products/ service.

    All the best.
