Too Bad Growth Hacking Via. Social Media Will Die

Facebook's already bunking advertising techniques used to gain free exposure.

What will growth hacking even have a place for as social media companies stomp out free ride techniques such as: Like this picture if you agree!

Like baiting, fan pages/pictures that say things like 'one millions like and ill shave my head', etc.

How do you plan to get around this?

Reddit, haha. One post there got me like 300 clicks to the link on my website. I think it is often overlooked.

But do the clicks actually convert? Or is it just traffic that's clicking through and bouncing off?

I personally think of social media to a point as banner ad space. Specifically on my facebook page I personally put up 5 or 6 shared / created pieces of topic related content, then throw in a "banner" ad for my site. They have never been shared, and I think aside from my mother in law they have never been liked. but the links get hit pretty decently and have about a 9% conversion.

It really is no different than a website itself. you throw up content that draws them there, and then be it with a authors box or banner ads get the traffic into your conversion funnel.

ALso traffic on your site should be natural, no way by fake work.

300 pageviews is worth bragging about? Lol. That's worth less than a dollar for most advertisers.

The math for noobies: 300 pageviews multiplied by .005 clickthrough rate on an ad on the page multiplied by CPC of 50 cents equals 75 cents. Those are just some average numbers for typical sites. Add in that it's Reddit users and the numbers are probably worse.

300 Isn't a bragging thing, I think it was more of an example from a real experience. And 300 beats Facebook's 0 at this rate haha.

For people who read sidee's math:
That's $0.75 for the website owner. If you can get me 300 clicks on an ad so people come to my site for less than one dollar.. PM me, we might need to do business.

I've had this happen to me before too. Or better, when someone posts your content and they have a lot of karma, it'll probably get seen more. I had one instance of this and had 3,300 clicks in one day.

I've had a lot of traffic convert on Reddit, it generally just depends on the offer.

    1. Create good content. Cliche but the truth. 2. Press Releases/ PDF content. Newswires and sites like Scribd and Slideshare are super overlooked.

Does hacking have to be free? Wouldn't paid advertising on social
networks optimized for message amplification be a way "around this"?

By not being stupid enough to count on FB for my social media marketing. I quit FB altogether well over a year ago and I've never looked back. FB is merely a rent-seeker and place where people get to show off how idiotic they can be.

if you focusing on Social Media to Growth your brand you are doing it wrong imo.

There is a better way of growing users than just social media alone.

Saying it will die means either you are not using it right or not understanding how to use it.

Let me say that a few SM platforms are still an optimal source of growing your client's brand you just have to know how make it work.

Social Media will never die for it innovation that keeps it around. Having a solid framework that exploit it without gaming the system is key to growth imo.

Find that alchemy and milk it and to keep it fresh you have to keep it juicy or it will die.

Big Brands are doing the same thing and must like their page to enter their giveaway etc. It will never die. The only thing they will look at is unnatural like patterns. That's the only thing they need to do to balance.

Reddit and StumbleUpon have the best free options as far as growth goes. Conversion, not so much (Reddit, tho have to say it REALLY depends on your niche; I have a product for college students - a big group of users on reddit - so naturally Reddit brings in leads), but on the other hand they're part of the avalanche.

Of course you need to invest your time in these tools (to build up your reputation), so they're not totally free. In some cases (depending on what you make in an hour), the paid options can be cheaper/more efficient.

November Facebook will not allow you to bait users to like your page to enter anything soon so you better clean up while you can.
