What Video Recording Software Do You Recommend?

Hey everybody,

Wondering what recommendations you have for both free and paid video recording software for your webcams.

Not necessarily video editing software (unless it records video too).

Thanks in advance =)

I am pretty sure Sony Vegas will allow you to record video. You can grab a free trial from their site - Sony Creative Software - Vegas Movie Studio 9 - Introduction.

Ulead VideoStudio. It's a paid software, but they also have a trial version.

I would recommend Camtasia since it both edits, records video plus you can record MP3. It also has production qualities to multiple formats and purposes (you record once and can get up to 8 compression version types based on where it's going).

    Here's a link

    Download Camtasia Studio 30-Day Trial

    Cheers,

    Brad

PS- I use this software and won't use anything else.

You can't use Camtasia for JUST a webcam view though can you? I thought that it will only do use the webcam to create a little video that goes inside the screencast?

Thanks, and thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

Do you mean recording the video on the screen like a screencast?

If you do I'd recommend Camtasia - pricey but worth it if you want to edit your videos. Try a demo: Download Camtasia Studio 30-Day Trial

Otherwise CamStudio is free open source but has it's limitations

Screenflow of Mac - but has to be on 10.5 plus (I think).

I would recommend Camtasia as well. It does everything you need and is very simple to use.

I recommend 1AVCapture. It captures audio and video from any source of the PC including the full desktop, videos from inside websites like YouTube, webcams, DV cameras, TV tuners, USB TV tuners, you name it. It also records audio alone to WMA, WAV, and MP3.

      You can try it first:

      Best,

I would recommend Camtasia too. It has some really nice advanced features, and most internet marketers use it. I take it there's a reason for that

Just a note...Camtasia will record a "Voice Narration" and saves it as a wav file. Been a great thing for me when Audacity crashes.

I like Camtasia for editing (got the free version a while back), but the Sony Vegas software, while it has a decent learning curve, can do so much more.

Thanks to those who have answered Russell...been needing a little input for this as well.

For the past year I have shot to tape and uploaded to
      a computer. I never use a webcam - I use a real video
      camera.

In any case, screen capture software like Camtasia isn't
designed for Webcam use. It may be capable but it isn't
setup for it "out of the box".

Even though I own some more expensive software I use
basic Sony Vegas for most stuff these days. It's fast
      and reliable.

If you use a Mac you'll want to use something designed
      for Mac. I use XP.

I would advise you, as a marketer, to reverse-engineer what
you need from the experience you want the public to have
of YOU as a marketer. You may find you want to sweat
the details like I do, shoot to tape, and edit.

I do some nice work and some sloppier work, but it's all
a lot nicer than webcam work. Lighting and microphone
choice plays a big roll in the end experience of your users
and their perception of you as somebody who has
      stuff figured out.

If you are looking for screen capture and voice recording - check out Jing from Techsmith. It's free and also gives you some hosting as well.

I like to use a program called wink for doing screencasts. it is not exactly a video editor but you cant beat the quality of the cast.

Camtasia for Windows and Screenflow for Mac. However, next week the long awaited Camtasia for Mac is finally making its debut and it costs about the same as Screenflow.

I've always used Camstudio the IM edition.

For webcam recording, I try to use whatever comes with the webcam itself.

    Hope that helps!

    Make it a great day!
