Is hostgator still relevant ?

I remember hearing some bad stuff about Hostgator since it got sold to another company, my question though is, are they still relevant for that price ?

Or are there better offers, if so which ones ?

Also if I get it, should I go for a 3 year plan ?

Is it even possible to cancel the subscription if for whatever reason I decide to change or stop during these 3 years

I had a hostgator reseller account from past 7 years. I'm happy with it. However, the Amazon S3 is very tempting to me .. based on the technology, security and the best part tehy are very economical. I also want Amazon s3 as I can run my videos and autoresponders on it and pay only for what I use - which is incredible.

Cons: is the technical curve is high in amazon s3
there is NO control panel - creating emails and other stuff is still a question.
I have around 50+ clients - moving all the data is a discomfort .

Could others members throw light on my issues too ?

S3 is the storage service , do you mean EC2 ?

And yes, you have to be " technical " to manage your own EC2 instances in combination with S3 storage service. As internet marketeer you don't need to waste your time for that , you can outsource or get a simple hosting , I use Bluehost Pro that comes with unlimited sites, domains, storage and traffic and I'm very happy with it .

I've had a dedicated server with HG for over 4 years.

I find their support and service first class

I am using Hostgator web hosting from last eight months and didn't faced any problem.
I had a long chat with one of their customer support member, he was nice and answered most my questions. So, i would recommend HostGator from my end & even i wasn't aware about it's merger!!!

Cool thanks for the answers so most vote goes towards Hostgator .

I mean to take the 3 years plan just to save a bit of money.

It's currently 20% off and the email "sale" is just for one month..

I might wait a bit until it goes even more on sale, maybe black friday ? or december, lol do they do christmas sales ?

I have had HostGator for the past 4 years and never had a problem. I haven't really noticed any changes in them in that time. As a matter of fact, I never even knew they had been sold to another company.

I think it is still the best hosting out there for Internet Marketers, as long as you do what you are supposed to on your end like take your own backups, etc.

I always get good customer service from them and I would highly recommend them. That's just my opinion. Maybe some others have had bad experiences but I personally have not.

Hostgator is a good choice. I would just stick by paying a monthly subscription for the hosting not pay for years.

Bluehost is another great hosting option.

Hostgator are the worst... they are so bad I don't even feel like taking about it. And just for the record so are Arvixe. You need to find a smaller company that cares about their customers... even if it's more expensive.

Hostgator is best. I guess there is a sale coming. I got email recently, birthday say or something like that. I don't know why people criticize Hostgator, I never had any issue. But still why pay for three years? Go for semi annual or annual plan

I've hosted (continue to) several WordPress/blog sites and have had no issues. I have noticed some slippage in customer service, however, it may have been isolated experience. Overall a good provider.
