You have made a wise decision to move away your site from Hostgator. Namecheap indeed a good option and I hope you will make a good and long relationship with them.

Namecheap holds 80% of my domains and been with them in the past 7 years. I might upgrade to their VPS server next month. The thing that I like them most is their responsive chat support. This is the best if you are outside US where toll free numbers are not applicable..

  So I am just keeping my HG reseller for my own sites, but I am trying out Inno hosting for reseller hosting I will need for other sites (not my own)--read some good stuff about them, I liked what the owner said in replies on WebHostTalk...and this might not mean anything as far as how their hosting is--their site is lightening fast...so, on with another hosting test.

I guess namecheap uses some kind of cage system that limits cpu & memory usage to each account - so it doesn't affect other users.

But since you can't get other user resources I would check if your site is getting load at all or how much time it loads in peak hours.

I never used HG or NC but I think HG is in the "comfort zone" and they don't innovate much.

They are on the market for several years and they host a mix of outdated and updated websites on their servers. This means they use older software versions which is needed for older CMS versions but very bad for new versions.

Sometime ago I read they still use php 4 by default in some servers.

Nevertheless I hear a lot of good things about HG too.

Loading time does not change at all regardless of time. Yes, I believe they uses cage system too and that is actually good.

Hostgator was an excellent hosting before that Endurance company took it over a couple of years ago.

Been with Hostgator a long time have not had problems, even after they got bought out, so I'm confused why all this chatter!

If you have all your domains with NameCheap, is it a good idea to have them host your sites as well?

Question:
What is a kick ass hosting company Today, bar none??? And how long before that hosting company is Not this years flavor?

Brad, I'm only going by my experience thus far! But I have no problem leaving Hostgator if I have any problems as you have mentioned!

Why would i look for a new host and then go through all the trouble of getting all my sites there and then find out that this new hosting is just as screwed up? You see i think that they all suck. I just go with the least of all evils!

But if anybody has any recommendations I will certainly look in to it.

hi Andre,

Well I think you cannot put all the hosting companies in the same bag, because its quite different using an "unlimited" host and a "limited" in terms of quality standards.

I have been in hostgator and their support sux big time then moved to Hostwinds and even being an unlimited web host they have a support that we can call it heroic... 1-2 minutes to reply to any ticket , hostgator if I was lucky took 24-48 hours

Then there are what I call premium Web hosting companies like Liquid Web, are expensive but everything its superb. SSD drives, very fast loads, Huge IOPs and an excellent support.

But as always you get what you paid for

I used to have hostgator several years ago and liked them, but I switched to Namecheap and they are so much better. I'm glad that I did this because I've read so many Host Gator horror stories since the switch. You should be in good hands with Namecheap, I buy my domains through them and host most of my sites through them and don't have one complaint in a few years now.

Thanks for the info!

I'm not putting "all the hosting companies in the same bag" but there is never going to be a perfect solution and if it gets to the point that my service is not what is should be I will change for sure! Not going to stay with anything that is not delivering good product or service!

I like Liquid Web and they have been around a long time, since 1997
Hostwinds was founded in 2010 so time will tell and lets see then they get many many more clients?

Thanks Adie for your recommendation, I was looking for a reseller account and tried three other well known hosts but i could not restore my two sites, support was responsive from all three but they said file size is too large to be transferred. After reading your post i tried them, for one of my site they asked full cpanel backup and other one i migrated with out any problem by using backup buddy. All is going well right now, I have level two plan if every thing remained smooth like that might will upgrade to bigger plan.
And first month is for $1.00 and you can evaluate their service without any financial commitment. I can concur with others about there live chat which is very responsive and helpful.

I was a customer of HG since 2008 and found no issues with their hosting. Their response was pretty quick as compared to others. Shifted to Amazon after having a growth in my business.

I add I have recently been moving one site at a time from Hostgator - this is because it's so annoying to deal with them now.

I'm outside of US and live chat use to be great - response time always small - now last time I waited almost an hour for a support team member to speak with me... and I've had rather difficult times having things fixed.

I've found bluehost support great, however I'm goign to check out Namecheap for a new site i'm currently developing and see how they go.

After going through more hosting companies than I want to admit to - we came back to NameCheap. Had tried them when they first launched their hosting and it was not good - the changes in the last 2 years are amazing. Support has been so fast it's unbelievable.

Cost is good, they have reseller accounts with WHM, which I love just for our own sites since it makes managing multiple sites so easy, and allows you to give CPanel or ftp access to a single site rather than your whole master account very easy,

LiquidWeb might have been good but they set up the new URLs for you as add-on domains, you cannot do it yourself - and it was a 2 day process which just did not work for us.

I highly recommend NameCheap!

I agree that HostGator's support has gone downhill--it used to be great. I am still using HG tho--in my experience, ALL of the shared hostng I've tried had "challenges".

I use a reseller acct. for my sites,because like Melody, I like the WHM setup. Suuport, ain't what it used to be, but HG's performance, for me anyway, has been very good. In fact, I just ran a couple sites thru Pingdom--1 fairly big, ~3 GB or so with quite a few pages, and had several times of Pingdom saying my sites ere 90-98% faster than most other sites...not scientific research, but it has been pretty good performance when I've checked.

That being said, I just signed up for a Namecheap reseller trial--one of the sites I checked with Pingdom, I switched to Namecheap--it is still fast, not quite as fast as when on HG, close tho. I will be checking out their support during my trial, as I need a reseller acct (besides 1 for my own sites), so NC is in the running

(I like NC's support so far, Eugene was knowledgeable and helpful, and didn't have to wait too long on chat--tho it was late at night...will be putting them thru my tests)

YMMV

PS I do tweak a few things, use W3 cache plugin with tweaks to it's settings, etc

I have the same experience on the first 3 months only but after that, Namecheap becomes garbage.... My site was always off for no reason and sometimes, the support tells me that my site reached the CPU resources limit...

I transferred to bluehost VPS for $29/month and since then, my site has been up 99.9% for 5 months now...

Namecheap shared hosting is good only for websites with less than 2,000 daily visitors

In this report, Hostgator average support waiting time is 60 hours and the worst is 168 hours, you made a good choice to stay away from it.

As you can see from the benchmark, namecheap support is like average 2 hours. Pretty sure that is support ticket time, and with my experience that timing is true. For living chat, I had must faster experience with namecheap, I could always click live chat and open a windows, and there would be someone there to talk with me within around 3 minutes.
