Do you know about this autoresponder?

While looking for autoresponders, I remembered that iContact is pretty awesome.

(not an affiliate link)

iContact

They don't have as many features as some of the others but they are pretty useful. They have a sliding fee similar to Aweber's (slightly cheaper) and they can do just about anything else Aweber does.

They start with a 15 day free trial, after which their fees start at 10 bucks a month.

It's the same autoresponder Barack Obama's email campaign uses.

A particular useful feature is that they don't require you to opt-in any old contacts, so you won't have to opt your old lists again if you transfer them.

I just joined and I like the interface, it's pretty simple and intuitive.

Hope this helps some of you.

thanks alot, 10 bucks a month is definitely more affordable on my budget. I was planning on getting aweber once I received my first click bank check so that i could set up an opt in box on my landing page, are there any key differences between aweber and icontact that would warrant the cheaper price?

    Hmmm... looks pretty good.
You know if they are usable for non-English speakers?

I have been looking a bit into this service: Email Marketing Software - Your Mailing List Provider
As I have seen a few Norwegian providers using them, and I need something that can be used for the Norwegian population.

Do you know any good ones?

    Thanks,

      Hey to answer your questions:

I found a Hubpages comparing Aweber with iContact. He ends up recommending Aweber but says they are very close and both useful. Again, when it comes to price iContact wins:

Yes I have, the main issue I would have is the learning curve behind using one and I've heard that a lot of the self hosted ones have bugs, but it's an option for sure.

But I am considering it more as I see delays in broadcasts with almost every provider I've used, and other issues. It might just be worth it.

Not to mention, it's a lot more maintenance - you have to watch out for unsubscribes EVERY DAY, and if you miss one, you're toast.

I'd rather let Aweber handle all that technical stuff. That's their job, not mine >

For me it's easier to let aweber do all the work (no aff link). I've also found their tools and customer service (they have a chat help) awesome. Best choice for those that don't have the time to load and manage their own service. Worth the $19.95/mo.

Responce 2-0 is the best alternative to aweber I have found .

I have worked out a deal with the owner to do a 90 day free trial and then only charge $7 a month ( up to 10,000) after that .

Of course I had to give up my commissions to get the low price but it is worth it for my list building class members .

If this interest you pm me . I won't make you join my list building membership to get it .

    Hi there,

I started out with Mailloop - where you send your own - BIG mistake - as soon as I switched to Get Response my sales double overnight with the improved delivery - plus I didn't have my own server blacklisted from all the bounces.

I've been using Get Response for a few years and they are OK - but now they have a new interface with more features and they hiked their prices BIG TIME, plus as I am leaving this message none of my sign up boxes are working with their new interface.

So this could be a good time to change.

I have about 200,000 subscribers so the Aweber prices and Get Response new ones are far too high - most of my subscirbers are third world and will never buy anything because they can't - but there are lots of them!

So who do you recommend? NO affiliate links please - I want genuine info from people using the company, not someone trying to make a buck.

(I will check the source code and will not click on any affiliate links so please abstain).

Companies I have found on the net:
    icontact
trafficwave - for a start they don't even have a way to email them on their website so not a good start.
Responce 2-0 - from this post here - never heard of them otherwise.

    Thanks
    Shelley

Does anyone have any thoughts on TrafficWave.com (No link - I'm still getting to my 15 post)

I currently use GetResponse now and the new pricing is a bit scary. I signed up for the 30 trial offer from TrafficWave and so far so good. The best part is one fee - $17.95 or so - with unlimited autoresponders and subscribers.

I would love to hear any negative or positive comments on Trafficwave.

I've tried MailChimp, GetResponse and a couple others too in the past, and keep coming back to Aweber. It seems other folks go back to Aweber too; so I am just sticking with them.

I'm done switching, as every time I do - I lose folks. So haven't switched in a long time.

    I have not tried Xmailpro.

Yeah, I've been with iContact for awhile now. The main feature that keeps me with them is the ability to tranfer your lists without having the need to opt-them-in again!

I think streamsend allows that too. That is the reason I dumped GetResponse and went to ss. However, I can see a lot cheaper services are now around.

        Hey!

To answer your question about importing contacts...

First you need to download the list you have from your current provider. Look for a backup
or download list link. When you download the contact list make sure to save as a .csv
        format file.

This just means that the list is saved in a text format (You can open with notepad if you
want just make sure not to "mess around" with it since you aren't experienced with these
        files.

Another note is that the .csv files are also able to be opened with excel as they are
technically a spreadsheet in text format with your contact names, email addresses, and any
other info you had them enter into the sign up form for that particular list.

So, if you were to look at one and you had asked for a first name, last name, and email
address in the sign up form for that list (As an example) the file would look like this:

(I made up the names etc. also, there would be real email addresses in your actual file,
and the placeholders wouldn't have "*" but I had to substitute to post this message for
you it wouldn't allow the sample email addresses or even the real placeholder! )

        fn*me,ln*me,em*il
        jenny,smith,jenny at gmail
        john,public,jonnyq at gmail

The first line tells the autoresponder what the list variables are and the next rows are
the list members (data). The first line will vary depending on what your autoresponder uses.

It could be [f*rstn*me,[l*stn*me],[em*il] or other format.

You will have to edit the file if the codes for the variables are different between the
        companies.

For example, if one company uses [FN*ME] for the placeholder for the member's first name
and your new company uses "firstn*me" then you will need to change the top line of your
        .csv file to match.

Make sure you don't change anything else or forget the commas!

Some companies also have NO space between the data (firstn*me,lastn*me,em*il) and some
HAVE a space (f*rstname, l*stname, em*il). If so, and the new is different from the old,
once again you will have to edit you .csv file to match.

The best way is to use a "find and replace" software and have it find all of the commas
and make them commas then a space or the other way around change the comma space to just
commas and the whole list will get changed line by line without you having to edit each
        entry.

Believe me, it is a royal pain to do manually and if you make just one mistake it will
        mess up your import!

Most companies that allow imports also have a size limit to the files imported, like 1500
        people max, etc.

You can split your .csv files by just copying and pasting the lines of member info and
make several files out of one big one, just make sure to add the top line that tells the
script what the info is to each file.

Plus, each .csv file will need to be a different autoresponder list/name.

Now to add the folks to your new autoresponder account...

After signing up for your new account, if the company allows it, select "import list" (or
import autoresponder, whatever), name the new list, and then look for the "browse" or
        "import" button.

Click it, and then browse to the location where you downloaded the .csv file and saved it
        on your computer.

Click once on the file name to select it.

The service will upload the file from your computer hard drive and
create the new list with the pre-existing members listed in the file!

Make sure if you are going to use that same list on your site that you only set up any new
form to have the exact same variables (information to fill in such as name, email, etc.)
or you will mess up the list as you won't have the same data on the "new" members as you
        do for the "old" members.

Also, most AR companies require you to re-opt-in the moved list. In other words, they will
receive a message asking them to re-confirm their subscription to the list.

        You do get to
create the contents of that message so make sure you mention that you are just moving the
list and nothing else has changed.

You will probably lose 50 to 75% of the LIST MEMBERS! So don't move just on a whim!

After awhile most people - unless you practice great relationship marketing - will forget
why they subscribed and were too lazy to unsubscribe, or had your email/newsletter
automatically moved to a newsletter folder when it arrived and so forgot to read it
        anymore.

        Sorry, but it's true.

I hope this helps... feel free to ask any questions if I was unclear anywhere as I didn't
have this tutorial pre-written and "dashed it off" to answer your question.

Can anyone give info on the delivery rates between Aweber and iContact?

Get Response are OUT of the picture right now given their system doesn't work and is expensive - at the time of writing.

The most reliable 3rd party option I know for checking deliverability of any email provider is senderscore [dot] org (not an affiliate link).

You can register for a free account (takes about a minute or 2) and then begin researching the autoresponders you are interested in.

You'll find a great deal of information including the overall score, complaint history, how well they handle unknown/bounced emails, and quite a bit more.

It can be very enlightening and help you cut through a lot of the claims that are found online.

Most email marketing service providers have little distinguishing them. The one thing I wished they provided would be a powerful API I could use to integrate with my other web applications but most either don't provide one, or when they do, it's too limited.

I'm still looking for a good, reliable autoresponder I can use for my Norwegian clients.

I'm hoping to find one with the same functionality and deliver ability as Aweber. Closest one is yourmailinglistprovider.com - But it doesn't seem like you can make sequences that starts whenever someone subscribes, which makes it useless to me.

Other than that, it looks good. Does anyone else know anything I can use?
I've been thinking of hosting my own, and getting my own smtp at smtp.com as my host only allows me to send out 500 emails per hour.

I got a PM from Brian from trafficwave yesterday, and if trafficwave converts to the universal UTF-8 character set, it seems like a great alternative to aweber for me.
Thanks for that Brian, please tell me how your meeting went when you get back
