Arvixe is now (just very recently) owned by EIG. Keep away!!

I'd certainly avoid EIG and 1and1, as well as GoDaddy, myself.

Regarding hosts in general, beware of out-of-date information posted by members who are not familiar with which hosting companies are now owned by the dreaded EIG conglomerate, whose business model appears to be that of taking over previously good hosting companies and rapidly turning them into unreliable companies whose customer service is a disaster. Warriors are leaving EIG-owned hosts in droves, because after EIG buys them, they all become so unreliable and their customer-service so unresponsive. Many people explain the position pretty clearly in these recent threads ...

Like Alexa said Arvixe was just purchased by EIG this past fall. I was already to sign up with them at the time, since hostgator was having issues. I never used web.com so no recommendation there.. However I switch to Veerotech after doing some research.

Veerotech has C-panel and you can easily download WordPress with them. You want a reliable hosting service with good customer support. Veerotech's help was appreciated, with the transfer from hostgator. Take a look at the before deciding on web.com

Thanks for the mention here & glad to hear you're happy with our services.

The Arvixe acquisition is still in its infancy, it will most likely be a while before any major issues start popping up however, there's already an increasing number of support related incidents popping up that points to the same trend of what happens when EIG acquires a brand. I suspect the bulk of the issues will arise once they decide to start consolidating.

No; their customers typically haven't yet (just as was true, a couple of months after EIG bought those, of all the other acquired-by-EIG hosting companies they're now leaving by the hundred).

I have used arivixe for years as a test/ development account on one of those $50 for 3 years type of things...prepaid.

I have always been pleased with them...even now with eig....but I would steer clear. This is coming from someone who had intimated dealings with Hostgator....the biggest eig purchase that has see he go down hill fast.

Why you picked those two out of hundreds of hosting companies?
What are you expecting from a web hosting in general? What kind of traffic does your site gets/or is planning to get?

I'd probably pick a smaller hosting company that cares about his/hers customers. As described above, EIG is only wanting to expand (read: they want to get more & more clients). I've tested and used 20+ different hosting companies in the past and I've seen an tendency that smaller ones have a lot better speeds + customer support.

But if you just want to set up a simple site with none to little traffic, go with Hostgator IMO (it's EIG too). They are cheap, you can pay monthly and their customer support is pretty decent. Just don't lock yourself into yearly contract

I not familiar with web.com but I used arvixe for a while. I had to contact them a few times to get them to make upgrades to PHP and things like that. Support team is very helpful but I feel like they should keep things upgraded without waiting for customers to make a request.
