Any hosting better than HostGator?

Thinking about changing my hosting from Hostgator.
Noticed disappearing files, domains not showing in CPanel etc.
No reply to support ticket raised yesterday either.

Can anyone recommend a good alternative to Hostgator?

I did a search here and on google recently for that very thing as i've been hearing bad things about hostgator in recent months. A company named EIG or E somethng or another International Group
has bought out a number of hosting companies / 1and 1, godady, hostgator, bluehost, hostmonster, and still buying. They now just ignore requests from the average buyer of hosting, and help people who buy higher end packages. Anyway, recommended hosts from the site i found(sorry-i didn't make a note of the domain) are site5, siteground, and namecheap. But i'd keep an eye out for EIG.

I recommend Veero Tech. They are not owned by EIG. There is a member on the forum called Kingfish that always posts good information here about them. They have C-panel and the switch was done very easily. I have been with them for a few months and have no problems. They are reasonably price and you do not have to worry about server problems. Here is a link to them. VeeroTech - web hosting, reseller hosting, vps hosting, cpanel hosting
(not a affiliate link). You can do a simple look around the net and get a discount coupon. Good luck.

FYI- You will be bombarded by those that still think Host Gator or EIG's other sites are great.

I also have noticed in the past few weeks that Godaddy.com also offers hosting for your website. Maybe you should try them out too.

Well GoDaddy seem to have a mixed reputation in the hosting stakes. I enquired and they wanted $120 up front for the year. I do buy domains from them though.

Always host with a local company. Those extra few dollars extra you may spend will help your local economy, and you'll have a much better level of service than working with some company that hosts millions of domains.

I'd rather not be a number.

    I will recommend GreenGeeks.com.

They are not EIG owned or likely to ever be. One cost covers unlimited sites and data and they will migrate entire cPanels free when you sign up.

Can I jump in on this thread with a QQ. I already have hosting through a JV with a family member (LinkSky)....however their affiliate scheme is pretty pants...is there a host that has a good affiliate program but possibly you don't need to purchase it to promote it?

We've been with Hostgator for well over a decade now. That's right, over ten years!

We had maybe one bad day where there was 4 hours of downtime in all those years. And I remember they credited us an entire month free for that.

Any other issues or questions we ever had were solved almost immediately!

It's always interesting to listen to Gator haters who ramble on about how it's the worst hosting provider out there. Many have never even hosted on the Gator, but just regurgitate what they read in forums.

Those who do host with HG, simply whine about how since Endurance International Group bought them, now they have to wait 20 to 30 minutes for customer service.

    Pfff, spoiled much?

I don't know who in their right mind would think that switching to some other host, will result in them experiencing much less issues and better customer service there.

All the above may be true, but whether that's all Hostgator's fault, may be questionable. I trust you will get a response, when it's your turn in their que, and I trust they will help you sort it all out.

Methinks thou dost protest too much. If anyone has an unjustified ax to grind, it seems to me far more likely to be the one who simply dismisses every bad thing said on the WF about Hostgator, and insults all the Warriors who have ever criticized his favorite host (apparently all whiners, spoiled brats, people not "in their right mind", and/or regurgitating trolls with no personal experience themselves) than the ones who have expressed concern or dismay over the alleged decline of the previously most popular host talked about in this community, and their intention to move to a different host.

Why do you think Warriors suddenly went from having almost nothing but praise for your hosting company, to almost nothing but scathing criticism? Did Warriors suddenly go from being rational people in their "right minds" (in other words; in agreement with you), to a bunch of whiners, copycats who simply regurgitate complaints they read, and crazy people, with the change of ownership? Or did something change with the change of ownership?

Your "trust" that anyone experiencing problems must themselves be at fault, and Hostgator will surely always do everything right on their end notwithstanding, a reasonable observer with no personal experience and no ax to grind would certainly be unlikely to share your blind faith that Hostgator will sort everything out exactly as they should, are blameless in all complaint cases, and that the change of ownership didn't change Hostgator at all, but instead somehow changed hundreds of previous boosters into crazy, whining critics.

Lol do you work with EIG?

It's nice to hear a case where HG didn't severely mess up: ie. you.

But there are far too many cases in which HG has messed up, namely after the EIG takeover.

Maybe they have so few accounts now that their support lines actually aren't clogged anymore, I don't know. I just know that the latter part of my experience with them told me they were a sinking ship.

Then you look at other forums like webhostingtalk where people actually know what they're talking about. The complaints were consistent for accounts under HG from shared all the way up to dedicated servers. Something was happening and it wasn't good.

It's nice that you've had a decent experience with them. Tells me they aren't universally bad, which would be horrible considering how strong they had been for so many years. But they are worsening, and I'm pretty sure they're not going to get any better unless EIG changes its entire focus when it comes to taking over and running web hosting companies.

Yes, there are a lot of hosting company that are better that hostgator.

However, most of them comes with higher price. If you're using Wordpress, you can opt for hosting company that dedicated their servers and support towards WP.

This is called managed wp hosting. The best ones are - wpengine and media temple

    Hope this helps.

I recommend Dreamhost or Bluehost, but there are many others you can choose from. Maybe the best ting to do is to look for online reviews, people tend to tell the truth when they are upset with the quality of the services they pay for. Looking for reviews will help you form an idea about who's ok and who's not.

ASO was acquired when HostGator was acquired, so keep that in the back of your mind. If history serves correct as does with nearly every other acquisition from EIG, ASO is not far from the chopping block. I don't believe the "upgrades" have happened yet with ASO.

It's all relative, there are many who are pleased with them but there are many who have had so many problems! Mostly about their support system, it's frustrating when you're a paying customer and your problem is ignored..

Spent about two and half hours the other day with hostgators live chat plus waited 15 minutes to chat (had to sort out restrictions on my MySQL, sorted I thought.
Replied back soon as sorted to hostgator as advised. It has been 3 days now and still no response to my ticket (telling them it was sorted).. mean time google struggles to crawl my sites and access many of my pages, (income down)...mmm
Maybe looking at changing to Namecheap as I hear and have read good things about them.

I was with Hostgator from 2006 to 2014, and jumped ship shortly after EIG took them over.

The best hosting company in the world bar none is MDDHosting. Their customer service is the best in the industry, and I've even had the owner of the company answer a sales ticket (before I was even a customer) on a Sunday after an automated response told me I'd get a reply from the sales team on Monday!

Since I've switched my sites to MDD, they load far more quickly than ever before. MDD uses Litespeed servers which genuinely are much faster than Apache. If you use SEO in your business, MDD will help your rankings as page load speed is a significant factor.

A good host at a cheaper price, especially for reseller hosting or adult which MDD doesn't allow, is Stream101.

If you're serious about your business, though, I wouldn't look beyond MDD. No, I don't work for them, I don't make money through their affiliate program, and I don't get paid for writing reviews. I'm just someone who spends a ton of time researching to find the very best services, because it saves a ton of time and grief in the long term.

Lol, I just reported that SPAM about 30 seconds ago. Looks like the mods removed it.

I am using Arvixe and after a year, I am am happy with them. They treat my $40/year multiple domain account like I'm the boss! So I am happy.

I have hosting accounts at Hostgator and Bluehost since 2008. While they are both very good I would say Bluehost customer service is a little better. Also Bluehost as better security with their newer control cpanel. The also have better partners to improve your website. While Hostgator has better up time for server.

Support on the phone with hostgator is good.

However, support from the 'ticket' side is not so good. I had an unanswered ticket that has been open for 9 days now and another for 7 days now.

This is not good for business.

They may have been good in the past (and can still be good as long as you don't have any technical issues).

I wouldn't recommend hostgator to anyone.

Let's see how long they last.

No reply to support ticket raised yesterday either.

Can anyone recommend a good alternative to Hostgator?
There are many great hosting choices out there, like Stablehost, Namecheap, Siteground.
