Default Which is the better anti-virus: Avast or AVG?

Hi Warriors,

Many say that Avast has been working very well for them, and doesn't give them any problem. But some techie folks recommend AVG.

So I'm confused which one to choose. Could anyone list down the best reason why I should choose Avast over AVG, or vice-versa?

Thanks a lot,
Michael

I use avast because I feel it is not as resource intensive as some other programs (including AVG).

You can always try both and just pick the one you like better.

I've been using AVG for a few years now and it has been completely worry and trouble free for me. Can't really compare it to Avast as I've never tested it.

I've used both and prefer Avast as it is less resource intensive and catches more.

well, it is really difficult to compare them. it depends on what websites you browse and what kind of virus these websites may have. no anti-virus software can do everything.

I use norton + avast + spy sweeper at the same time. Yes, sometimes, spy sweeper uses too much resources.

I have used both, I currently use Avast.

Why? Because when I did get a Virus ... Avast was able to fix it and AVG was not. I was running AVG at the time.

Perhaps not the best logic, could have been in isolated incident. But AVG did not protect me from the virus so I moved on. No viruses since and it's been over a year. I don't really visit the "type" of sites that harbor viruses... but who knows you could get one anywhere.

Just my opinion and why.

I used to use AVG, but installed Avast a few months ago and like it a whole lot better. It seems to catch more and is less intrusive.

The other great thing about Avast is that the first time you run it, it does a boot sector scan of your computer.

If you are ever asked to sort out a computer that is struggling, Avast will sometimes catch enough malware in that initial scan to allow the computer to run well enough for you to run the necessary software/antispyware.

I was an AVG user but when it got updated to version (sorry can't remember now!) it slowed my pc down every day during the update process. I switched to Avast because of reviews on CNet and I've been very happy with it. I do see me going back to AVG in the near future..

I've used both - started out using AVG but switched over to avast. The latest version of AVG took too long to load at startup and is a memory hog.

We were using Avast until they couldn't find one of the "problems" we had on a test computer. Nowadays we only use Kaspersky Internet Security together with Malewarebytes - and we have never looked back....

Avast! all the way. As cypherslock mentioned, it catches a lot more worms than the other one does.

If I could, however, recommend another name, you should try Kaspersky. It's fantastic, but is resource intensive and bugs you with keylogger alerts when you wanna load games on your system.

So, beating all those odds, Avast! still wins

One of the best things to do to avoid viruses via email, is to also use a little mail server, such as officemail by burrotech.

All of your emails come in their first. You can then review them easily before downloading them to your normal email programs such as outlook or outlook express.

If you have more than one computer officemail also directs the emails to the right computer or you can copy them or whatever.

They have a free version or a $30 or so version without a message on your emails.

Definitely worth it and it means 99% of viruses don't even get downloaded to your computer in the first place and if one does, then your anti virus program should pick it up.

NOD32 is a good option. But I would recommend Kaspersky Anti virus software. It uses very less resources on your PC and gives solid protection against online threats.

I second Kaspersky. I use to use PC-cillin (by Trend micro, until it started hogging). Then I switched to NOD32, very lightweight, but lacked things like firewal, IDS, etc. Switched to Kaspersky - been with it ever since. Don't regret it one bit. Lightweight, thorough and protects very well.

I use avast because it seems to catch everything. I also like their boot up option to check your disk on restart. In the avast forum they say to have malwarebytes and superantispyware on your system just in case you get a virus.

I had a computer that did get a virus. Viruses, like ogres and onions need to be peeled away in layers. So between using the 3 programs was able to clean my system.

Best paid antivirus: Kaspersky, Avira Premium, Nod32

Avast and AVG are average, nothing special. Norton used to be the worst, but now it's a little better than before.

Avast runs in "real time" so any virus is headed off BEFORE it gets into your PC.

AVG, and most others, need to run a dedicated scan to see if you are infected.

I've used Avast for about 2 years and have had zero problems.

avast for a long time now - in light work, while very reliable. work of individual modules, unlike most anti-virus packages, which allows optimization according to its own needs, even the exclusion of unnecessary modules. Constantly updated. I am very happy and recommend it to all my clients. for many years until now, no customer has complained to me to block or self-ban antiviral. I do not have any comments to it

Kaspersky is very hard work and makes a slow PC, Avira is turned off every 2-3 months and creates problems, but NOD32 did not check - an I tests compared with Avast, Nod32 like not working. Many customers purchased a computer with Nod32, after my visit, and install Avast, opens many viruses, some of which are too dangerous for the security of personal information ..

This is one of the best programs in my view, but unfortunately, very severe. Over 70 percent of PC resources to run full antivirus .. I think that it worth it, unless it is used for serious PC bank transfers or corporate accounting, as in other major industries, which require maximum security ..

I have used just about all of them. NAV, McAfee, Kaspersky, AVG and Avast. I am definitely sold on Avast. AVG was good as well but I like Avast better. Most AV progams are serious system hogs. People at work and friends come to me when they get new laptops because I eliminate all the foo foo crap that comes packaged with a lot of new pc's. Many times McAfee (60 day trial) is installed. It's like having a new pc when you go from McAfee or NAV to Avast. Avast is truly the most user friendly program available IMO.

Avast has a higher rating than AVG, or at least has two independent pass ratings compared to AVG's one.

I have used AVG as a back up / second AV. It is fine, and has found viruses and trojans, but has missed the occasional whereas my paid AV nabbed them.

I have been using AVG for three years now. I admit it slows my computer down when I am doing a full scan, but other wise it works fine checks my emails as well as warning me about danger sites.
