Don't touch BlueHost/HostGator with a barge pole. They're next to useless when you actually compare numbers against other services..

If you've got the technical ability to get by with an unmanaged VPS, I thoroughly recommend Digital Ocean - I've been with them a while now and I've had no outages, and my sites load faster than people I know who are paying 10x the price

If you don't have technical skills and you just need WP, Traffic Planet is great, if you need something more general.. Name Cheap aren't too bad..

    Cheers,
    Michael

Not setup. They billed me for 8 months of service after I cancelled last year while taking a break from IM. No notifications or invoices received on my end either. Was promised no more charges. All the RAGE. Sucking it up for the next month while I find a replacement. Argh.

A Small Orange for shared and VPS

If affiliates didn't exist, HostGator, HostNine, BlueHost, and the other colorful zoo wouldn't either.

All you will get is conflicting opinions...

Bluehost is who i'm currently with, and they've been great thus far.

Haha - it's always the case with these discussions..

The issue is, most people don't objectively measure the performance of their host, so.. they just assume it's working well..

Low end BlueHost/HostGator plans are terrible as far as reliability and performance are concerned, as measured by me and several other people independently (do a quick google search). Not to mention that, if you actually do get some _real_ traffic, they'll both just shut down your account!

I've seen several product launches go sour because they were too successful and the vendor was too naive/cheap to use proper hosting. Cost them thousands of dollars!

      Bad bad bad!

      Cheers,
      Michael

Been with Hostgator for about 10 years without any issues. (That's why I stay with them..)

Before that it was Bluehost for a couple of years.

If you want great advice about marketing online then the Warrior Forum
is without equal. If you want advice about hosting there is a forum that
is dedicated to that one subject, It is Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet

When I wanted to choose a host I went there and the best advice I got
for my needs was https://www.wiredtree.com/ (not aff. link) From since
    then I haven't looked back.

Wiredtree.com and knownhost.com for the win but, just like Raydal pointed out, Webhostingtalk.com is a great place to start your search for a new web host. For shared hosting Liquidweb.com is worth looking at. Not the cheapest option but you get what you pay for.

GoGvo is a great web hosting company. They have been online for over 10 years now. Many successful internet marketers use them.

I have been using Hostgator for over 6 years now. Have not had any problems at all.

That being said they do have horrific customer service issues for many to contend with since getting taking over last Summer by EIG.

Iam probably going to stay with them and play it by ear but I would be hesitate to recommend them or Bluehost because of the recent shoddy performance

Depends what you're looking for. If we're talking shared hosting I would recommend someone like Nexcess. Managed VPS, as others have mentioned, you will do no better than WiredTree. Both of the previously mentioned companies shine when it comes to service and support and I can recommend knowing that they would you treat you very well.

I would avoid EIG companies like HostGator at all costs.
