I don't see any review threads for this self hosted email marketing software so I am starting one.

Sendy is a self hosted email marketing software you install on a domain just like WordPress. You can then use the interface to send emails. It works with your own web server, an external SMTP server or even with Amazon SES.

Since you own this piece there is no restrictions. You can add people to your list and blast the crap out of them (but not recommended!)

In their website it says it costs 100x less than other mail providers and that's true. Amazon SES costs 10 cents to send 1,000 emails.

In a nutshell my review for Sendy:

Pros
  1. Low cost autoresponder. Pay $59 one time for lifetime use.
  2. Send emails for just 10 cent for every 1,000 emails from Amazon SES.
  3. Self hosted email software with ability to resell your service to clients.
  4. No restrictions for adding users since you own the software.
  5. Emails delivered by Amazon’s servers.

Cons
  1. Need a lot of technical skills to setup yourself. You may need to hire help.
  2. No direct support, get support from community forums.
  3. Lack of visual editor for email forms and templates.

    I used Sendy before.

    And the main reason I decided against using it was Sendy was a one man shop and the developer seemed to let his ego get in the way of adding features his users requested.

    I would recommend looking at MailPoet or MyMail for WordPress before Sendy. Sendy is a one-trick pony that only works with Amazon SES. The others I mentioned work with many SMTP providers.
