Compare Hosting Information- Recommendations?

I have a website that I have been using the Host Gator Baby Shared Hosting Plan. My Magento site has been slow to load as it is a big site and I am looking to upgrade my hosting options. My developer tells me I need to upgrade my hosting for a quicker site.

I am looking for the best value for the price. There are a lot of options for hosts so would like your opinion on what you would use.

I don't think I need a dedicated server yet, or do I want to pay for it. I am starting to look at VPS options, and also looking at things like Rackspace and the Amazon AWS hosting in the cloud options. Do you have experience with these? There are many options out there, and I am trying to narrow it down so I can get the best value for the price.

Thanks!

You most likely just need a better host. Is the site properly optimized? What's your current resource usage in terms of RAM/CPU?

Actually I don't know what the usage is, I'll have to check. The site is currently in development and is running slow. I know that Magento sites on a whole, need more power to run them.

How do you know there would be any sales if the site is not running and make profit yet?

You may check offshore seo vps. Great live support with fully managing own control panel. Reliable with decent package plan.

What about using Amazon AWS or Rackspace options? Do you have any experience with them? Cost and quality vs a VPS?

Magento is resource heavy and that's why you need a Magento host who has experience with the platform and truly knows how to optimize it. I would recommend getting with Nexcess. They have a wide variety of plans that go from shared to much larger and have been working with Magento since its creation.

I think most of these problems with the basic Hostgator Hosting Service, is on the website owner not really knowing how to optimize the site for fast loading.

I have been using the same Hostgator service - the baby plan, for my blogs online. And never had a problem with slow loading at all!

The only time I did encounter a few loading problems is when I was not optimizing my site very well.

You need to learn how to use Caching Tools and features. You could even use a Cloud Service - with a basic hosting plan. That will make your site load very fast!

Unless your site is getting thousands of visitors a day - there is no need to pay a lot for hosting!!

One of my blogs gets hundreds of visitors daily and it is still using the baby plan from hostgator. Im always checking the load speed and everything else (because I can be a perfectionist lol) ... and so far, the entire site loads very fast!

So, I know from experience, that it is not the hosting service that is causing your site to load slow - it is you who is not taking the time to learn how to optimize your entire site to load as fast as possible, regardless of what type of hosting service you use.

    You know what I mean!

    I hope this helps!

    Keep up the great work!

I dont understand how can the site be slow when it is just in development stage without any real traffic.
