Default Any Opinions On Shopping Carts?

Ok, so I don't have a shopping cart yet, and I'm a little lost in all the options and vague opinions I've been getting. (I'm also not too clear on the difference between the terminologies. "Merchant Account, Shopping Cart, Payment Gateway" etc.)

I'll state what I'm looking for, and I'd appreciate some responses of how I can get what I need. Thanks in advance for your help

I need a shopping cart where I can:

- Customize the Order page (Add testimonials, Risk-Reversal and other Copy, ON the order Page)
- Ability to use 1-click upsells (OTO and offers After Order page)
- "Bumps" ON the order page (Select a check box to add an additional order)
- Recurring Billing
- Not hard to be Accepted (Even with Bad Credit)
- Works well with I.M. Product launches and Quick spikes in orders (I've heard of nightmares when they decide to freeze your account.)

I may be missing some, but Those are the Main ones.

So, can anyone Point me in the right direction?...

Thanks!

A merchant account and shopping cart are to entirely different things. I think you need both. For merchant accounts, the guys that a lot of IM'ers use are PowerPay (dot) biz. But they are not the only ones. There are tons of providers, so look into which one will be best for you.

For a shopping cart, I can only recommend Ultra Cart these days. I've switched over to it recently, and they're awesome in every way. I even had them build me a custom on site payment form, so I can process payments on the sales page, whilst still maintaining the functionality of their backend shopping cart. That's incredibly powerful.

You could use OSCommerce, I believe Zen Cart would also accommodate your needs. While both of these are nice I must admit, after trying to help someone customize Zen Cart I don't care much for it.

Look at MarketersCart.com - I don't use it but with it
they include a merchant account and it does true 1-click
upsells. Getting your merchant account as part of the
deal probably means they'll overlook bad credit on
your part... within reason anyway.

There's a difference between a OTO and a 1-click upsell.
I hope you know that.

Thanks for all the responses! I'm researching the links you've given...

chewie49- I THINK the difference Loren was referring to is...

All "One-Click up-sale" means is that they don't have to fill out
their info multiple times to buy more stuff after the initial purchase.
it's just clicking one button "YES, add to my order"

OTO is exactly that. A special offer presented this one and only time...
Right now!

Any other opinions based on ACTUAL PERSONAL experience With Merchant/Shopping carts would Still be helpful... You know how powerful Social Proof is

Our shopping cart http://nanacast.com does everything you are looking for.

Lets hope this time people do not delete my response just because its about my own cart because I don't know of many other solutions that actually do exactly what you are asking and we cover it all and it is completely Relevant to the conversation since we do OTO, Bump, One click upsell/downsells, offer Customizable secure checkout pages, and help people get merchant accounts etc.

They are not a merchant provider and they do not underwrite so they have nothing do do with the application approval process.

Also these days credit is more important than ever due to the current economic climate and banking industry regulations which effect Merchant account eligibility. Merchant accounts are considered unsecured credit so you can count on them running your credit.

That does not mean you will automatically get approved for a merchant account... in some cases its common to be required to have a rolling reserve or pay a higher % discount rate.

Most carts advertise stuff like this... all it means is that they will help you try and get one by referring your lead data to another company.

If you're looking for a Great hosted cart, look at 3d Cart or 3dcart.com
I use them and I'm extremely happy.

Yea I was going to try 3d Cart but there was something that it was missing so I decide not to get it. I think it was missing an autoresponder or a tracking system. Don't quote me on that but there was something that stop me from buying it, at the moment I am just trial testing carts. I am currently using Premiumwebcart which is good so far. Before that I tried 1shoppingcart which is ok I like premiumwebcart interface better and it's easier for me

Interspire is good, CScart is decent, Cubecart is good. Interspire is still the easiest to customize.
I have used all 3. Would stay away from OsCommerce - far to heavy/sluggish script. Ans as a newbie, I would not try Magento. Has a relative steep learning curve, if you need to configure it yourself.

after years of people creating carts, i still prefer oscommerce, its still one of the most flexible scripts for a shopping cart site script.

i use the CRE Loaded version but its basically the same type idea.
