MOBE (My Own Business Education/My Online Business Empire) / MTTB (My Top Tier Business) Review

Edit: MOBE has been rebranded as "My Own Business Education". I could venture a guess as to why they changed the name, but regardless, it's the same scam with the same scum at the helm.

I want to share my personal experience regarding MOBE/MTTB (My Online Business Empire/My Top Tier Business). I am going to leave out emotion and simply give an objective evaluation of my experience, why I gave it a try, what it is, and why I do not recommend it.

Why I gave MOBE/MTTB a try:

I had been in online and offline internet marketing for a couple years. I had made a fair amount to supplement my regular income, but not enough to live on alone. I was searching for a way to make that happen, and came across MOBE. The message sounded simple enough. You can make $4k a month by selling a thousand $4 items, or by selling four $1k items. I was convinced that selling big ticket items was the way to go.

I did some homework online and saw plenty of negative reviews MOBE had received. However, I also saw several marketers I'd come to have a good deal of respect for that were doing it. I was convinced (oh how we lie to ourselves!) that the haters were just a bunch of whiners who didn't have what it takes. If someone I respect believes in it and has found a way to make it work, then it must be legit and I can make it work too.

I paid the initial $49 to get in and take a closer look. Once in, I got through the first few of their 21 steps (which are designed solely to up-sell you into higher ticket items) and then spoke with one of their sales reps on the phone. I was still a little leery, but they assured me that if it did not work out then I would be offered a refund. With that assurance, I forked over the $2,000. Nervous, but hopeful.

What Is MOBE/MTTB?

Many people reading this will already have a sense of what it is and are just looking for reviews, but for anyone not familiar, here's the skinny.

MOBE is a system where you pay big money to obtain the license rights to some "top tier" internet marketing training courses which you can then go out and sell on your own. They liken it to a franchise. Instead of starting a new restaurant, testing the market, making adjustments and spending money as you go only to likely fail and close your doors, you can be a franchisee, owning your own McDonalds or Subway. Similarly, instead of doing all the work on your own, you can leverage their done-for-you systems and products which they claim have been tested and proven.

In order to get the license rights to go out and sell their high ticket items, you have to invest a minimum of $2,000. This gets you set up at the "MLR" (MOBE License Rights) level. They have "titanium" and "platinum" levels available for a sizeable chunk more.

What I Observed

Once I was in, I spoke with a few folks, including the guy who recruited me and asked them: Do you make any money selling the high-ticket items you bought the license rights to, or just by getting more people into the system? The answer was exclusively the latter. There is surely some exception to this somewhere, but as a general rule, those making money in MOBE are only making their money by getting others to join MOBE. There is a good reason why reviews for MOBE across the web are filled with terms like "ponzi" and "pyramid" and "MLM" and "scam". They have very carefully and strategically put things in place to avoid the technical legal definition of some of these terms while embodying the essence of all of these in spirit.

Bye Bye $2k

After realizing first hand how the system works (turns out the plethora of negative reviews online were right after-all) , and losing more than a little respect for those who were pushing MOBE, I decided it was not for me. I want to make money selling an actual product or service that is worth more than what I am selling it for, not by selling..., well..., nothing. With MOBE, I wouldn't be selling any of their high-ticket items. (I couldn't find anyone who does so.) I would simply be getting others to pay $2k or more to join the system, so they in turn could go out and recruit others to pay $2k or more to join the system, so they in turn...

Having seen this, I asked for a refund. And I was denied. Unfortunately, it was over the phone and not in writing that I was told I could get a refund, and without having it in writing, I was out of luck. It was my word against theirs, and of course they denied having said such. I went to my bank to have the charges reversed, but unfortunately was not able to do so.

In Summary

I was hopeful in giving MOBE an honest try, but in the end found it to be an unethical way to make money. They proved themselves to be more than a little deceitful which is how they managed to walk away with $2k of my money which they refused to refund.

Avoid MOBE (My Own Business Education, formerly called My Online Business Empire)/MTTB like the plague.

So, your saying is that your out $2K? Actually, unless they changes the rules, they have a 1 year guarantee that if you follow their traffic system and not make any sale for one full year, you get your $2k back. I did join back in Nov. 2014 and has not made a dime. Yes, I did purchase many traffic sources and by Nov. 2015 which is in 2 months, if i dont make any sale, they will refund my $2K. That is written in the contract that I signed.

fong47, please let me know, either here or via PM or both, if you actually receive your refund. I truly hope you do, but it seems to me that while they have a refund policy, they have it strategically set up in a way that ensures they never have to actually refund anyone.

My initial note to them requesting a refund was:

I am sorry to have to do this, but I need to request a full refund for the MLR I purchased a month ago. I have spent hundreds of dollars and God knows how much time following the exact steps as presented and taught to me, and have had neither any results nor signs of possible results forthcoming. Furthermore, the system has not been what I was led to believe it was. It is not for me and I do not wish to continue. I have given it my best shot and followed the exact steps. Please refund my $1997. Thank you.

    Their response back was:

The MOBE License Right’s program is refundable 12 months from the date we received your signed MLR contract, if you can provide proof that you have consistently (over the course of the year) implemented three of the proven traffic strategies in the MOBE License Right’s training area. Proof, as shown on the attached sales page and MLR contract includes: receipts from paid traffic, screenshots from your affiliate back office, etc.

So in order to get a refund, you have to show that you continually threw more and more money into trying to get their systems to work over the course of a year. Which is not what I was told. My next note back to them was:

Thank you for the reply. Here is my response.

As I mentioned in my initial note, I was misled. That is putting it
mildly. Truth is, I was lied to. Allow me to briefly recap how.

1-The below is a direct quote from Matt Lloyd from the sales video:

“Here’s what I’m going to offer you as far as the guarantee goes. I’m
going to offer you my famous $500 cash back guarantee. Here’s how that
works. I am so confident in MTTB and this system that I’m now offering you
that I’m willing to back it up with a $500 cash back guarantee. So
complete the application right now and take care of your fee today. If you
aren’t accepted or you just decide later that this just isn’t for you then
we’ll refund you your $49 investment. No questions asked. On top of that,
if you go through the training and you don’t make a commission within 30
days of completing those 21 steps, I will pay you $500 cash via paypal or
by check. Plus, I guarantee that you will make a commission within 30 days
of completing the initial 21 step training or I will pay you $500 cash out
of my own pocket. So you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

This is a flat-out lie. One cannot make a commission simply by completing
the 21 steps, because all the 21 steps do is sell you on getting “fully
positioned”. I bought into the lie, thus joining MOBE.

2-I asked my sales rep flat out what the refund policy is when I signed
up. I was told there was a 12 month refund policy. I inquired further,
asking “so you are telling me that any time within the next 12 months I can
simply request and receive a full refund, no questions asked?” He replied
“yes, that’s right”. At the time I just thought MOBE was taking
risk-reversal to the next level. Now I realize I was being flat-out lied
to in order to close a sale.

3-MOBE is not what I signed up for. I signed up to get the license rights
to good quality products I could promote and sell. But it turns out, those
making money from MOBE are not making money that way. They are making
money by bringing others into the program.

4-At one point when I was a bit confused as to how it worked, I inquired if
it was MLM. I was assured it is not. After getting involved with it, it
sure as heck is. “Multi-level marketing (MLM) is a marketing strategy in
which the sales force is compensated not only for sales they personally
generate, but also for the sales of the other salespeople that they
    recruit.”

I was lied to repeatedly. When not being flat out lied to, I was at the
    very least being misled.

There is no way I would have EVER signed the contract and bought into this
system had I been told the truth regarding these points. The fact that you
guys duped me into signing a contract means NOTHING if you had to FLAT OUT
LIE TO ME to get me to do it!

I kindly request again that you refund my $1997 before I have to take
further and more drastic measures. Let’s put this to bed, saving both of
us the time, frustration, and $ it will cost to drag it out.

    I await your reply.

    Thanks,

    Jarrod

    Their next reply back was:

For the guarantee to be in effect, you will need to show that you implemented what was taught in the traffic modules - so, we'll need to see some screenshots of banner ads, solo ads, etc placed... also, if you can provide the email you used to register when/if you attended the live gotowebinar calls on the Daily Calls, we will need to check and verify these.

These are all included in the 21 steps.

Once you have these things, please let us know and we will be happy to forward to Matt for approval of the payment on the guarantee.

    My next reply back was:

There are several issues I have with your reply, but the central one at
    stake here is this:

The fact still stands that I was lied to, and would not have purchased MLR
had I been told the truth when I inquired with the rep on Skype as to the
    return policy.

I have worked in and managed teams within sales and customer service
before. I know that the standard protocol is to enforce the terms of the
agreement. However, I also know that there are certain situations where
one needs to act based on principle, ethics, and in interest of doing the
right thing. A situation where a customer was lied to falls under that
    category.

I am unable to continue with the various forms of paid advertising that you
called out as I do not have the funds available. That leads me to another
issue here. When I signed up, I was asked a few questions as a part of the
application/qualifying process. One of those questions was: How much money
can you afford to invest in this business? My answer was: $2500. $2000
for the MLR, and $500 for advertising. I have spent the $2000 on MLR and
the $500 on advertising, but it has not been on three different methods,
because I was advised to focus on one traffic method at a time. (Seems
suspicious that I was specifically advised to do something that would force
me to not be able to get a refund.)

If it takes multiple sources of traffic and more than $500 in advertising
to get this MOBE thing off the ground and profitable, then someone who says
they have $2500 and no more to invest should not be sold the $2000 MLR. To
take someone’s money under those conditions and then refuse a refund is to
swindle them. It is shady and unethical at best. Downright scam at worst.

I am asking you as a matter of principle and ethics to reconsider your
decision and refund my $2000. If you refuse to do so, then I will begin
the process of working with my bank to have the charges reversed, and as a
matter of principle will feel obligated to do everything in my power to
warn others against MOBE. I really do not want this to get ugly. I really
do not want this to take up any more of your time or cost MOBE more money
in customer service and lost sales.

Please. I am pleading with you to reconsider and do the right thing, as I
    trust you will.

    Thank you,

    Jarrod

They ignored this one for a while, but after several follow-up attempts they came back with:

Unfortunately, as stated before, you are not eligible for a refund at this stage.

I would suggest talking with your coach further to see what else you can do to improve your marketing efforts.

If you are still going to seek the funds, you will need to go through a mediation/arbitration as stated below:

    [pages of legal jargon]

My final reply back to them:

I see you guys have all your bases covered to successfully scam the max
number of people possible. I am truly stunned by what I've experienced here. By far the worst refund policy of anything I've ever seen, and it is unethical and shameful to refuse a refund to a customer who has been flat out lied to. I really do not know how you can sleep at night ripping people off like this.

Again fong47, good luck, and please keep me posted!

DubDubDubDot, appreciate the tips. From what I've gathered, a lot of folks have pursued the exact same course of actions you outline and to no avail. It seems Matt Lloyd has an elite team of thug lawyers that have strategically put things in place to slip through all the FTC (and other) loopholes. I might still give it a try though. Appreciate it!

Don't let a lack of visible action deter you from filing complaints if you've been scammed. Just be sure to focus on the pyramid element in your report.

The FTC relies on consumer complaints. Foreign entities complicate matters, but if it's bad enough the DOJ may get involved. You never know if your complaint is going to be the tipping point for action to be taken. At the very least it contributes to potential action down the road.

So far the FTC has not been very helpful. I got a quick reply back stating the following, and nothing since then. May be giving them a call soon.

"Thank you for contacting the Federal Trade Commission. We have reviewed your complaint and have determined that the following information may assist you.

I used a debit card that came right out of my bank. Tried this path with the bank already, to no avail. The bank did what they could, but when it's a debit right out of the account, it goes to the vendor the charge was from for review, and of course that went nowhere.

I have been a member of MOBE for over a year now. The first 7 months I found it hard work.
I only started to make good sales this year which is absolutely awesome.

Mobe takes time & you have to be very patient its so easilly to get the shiny object syndrome, to achieve success with Mobe you have to be constant i.e. promote, promote every day.

Also I found personally Youtube video's which really helped me get a few large commissions.

Hi I found Mobe very good, I have had loads & loads of shiny objects in the past 3/4 years & to be honest hand on heart Mobe is the real deal.

I know there's some bad press on Mobe but there are always peoples opinions which you have to respect. The way I have been promoting Mobe is my blog & youtube videos plus a few solo adds I have been sending out.

So fare in the last 8/10 months I have sold three Mobe licenses & over 25 of the other Mobe products
with in the Mobe members area.

So if you do join Great. I'm here to ask you any questions on Mobe or advise.

Let me just start by saying this, ANY BUSINESS you start you can plan on losing money for the 1st year and even up to five years in a Brick and Mortar business. The reason being is your start up cost, and overhead.

I have read all the post and negative feedback's about this company on the internet, all because of the money that you have to put out first. What business would ever start without having a product to sell? That cost money even if its going as simple as your time. Please don't say your time doesn't cost anything because it does. It takes you away from you family and the things that you want to do on a daily basis.

With that said just like the step says in the 21 day training program, if I remember right it's step 3, so very early in the training, you have to change your mindset. You can't focus on just the money, you have to focus on the principal first, and that is the Learning and assistance of having someone there to help you as you go along and learn.

If you never had a on-line business, how do you know if it's going to lucrative for you? Trust me I have tried a lot of them and got no where. They even go as far as to help you find financing to help you with the venture. Who else offers that in the online world.
Upselling is a part of any on-line business out there. If you didn't then how do expect to make a living. Your advertising will eat up all the profit and you will working for free or even worse constantly in the Red. If you have ever had a business and worked with a Profit Loss Statement you know what Red and Black mean.

If you plan having your own BUSINESS then make the investment, which you would have to do anyway. You are not required opt in to anything and they have a great support team, which now accept calls for you.

Your not alone, there are thousands of people that do this and fail, just because of their mindset, not having the drive and determination it takes to do an online business. I tell you this from not even finishing the steps yet (on step 15 start my business plan on Monday) I see the potential in me and I know that with hard work and persistence it will pay off.

If you want to get rich quick and not have to spend money, or do any work, your chances are better playing the lottery. Change your mind set and start thinking like a business owner.
Nothing in this world is ever handed to you, work, overcome, prevail, and go get it.

Well, this is really so very very funny, so all the BAD feedback that mttb MOBE is harvesting is based only on the ludicrous "top tier" over-the.counter-expensive "products" and initial crazy investment in paid ads and all the etc further $$$$Expenses$$$$.. that it proposes to the public and, specially, the newbies of thïs niche ... ???? ... that only means sir matt feast has not read the ABUNDANT NEGATIVE feedback propperly, there are numerous serious reviews that state what this horrible filthy fishy destructive "business" has done to the lifes of many ex-members, who once believed in this bad shameless company, and then suddenly realized they have been plainly scammed, very cleverly - no doubt!!-, and fishy also, since the very moment this "great businessman (matt lloyd)" states that you do not have to pay or do as much work, to start earning big commisions (3K+ 5K.. wowww..really??.. yeahh...but guess what...YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FIRST....HAHAAA...SO THAT MEANS THAT THE FIRST SCAMMED SHEEP IS YOU!!!...WHAT AN OLD AND FISHY "BUSINESS MOVEMENT" MR MATT LLOYD!!.. that's all the core and basics of his filthy success) ...that is a big red flag as big as a wood in fires, that this is starting too bad, and his first filthy statement just makes me laugh so loud, listen to the "music"!: "well, yes, now, after all, my speach and smoke, you have to pay us: $49.9 but that is just for us to make sure that you are serious about all our business"...HAHHAHAA...SUREE SUREE,... MOBE may be good for some people.

I find it interesting that you have to pay to be able to sell their products when there are a ton of IM related products that you can sell without having to pay the seller a fee first.

The refund policy does sound fishy to me, and that is enough to deter me.
