    I have Cyberlink and Camtasia.

I like em both, however, I WANT Sony Vegas. The 1st two are good and Cyber is cheap, about $99. But, Sony Vegas has effects that neither of mine have.

    My cheap'ism won't let me get a 3rd when I already have 2 that equal about $400.

So far, no one in this thread addressed nofearman's problem. I tried to address the problem, not recommend a better more expensive software which he may not need.

nofearman talked about black bars on his video. So he wants a program that doesn't give him black bars. He uses Windows Movie Maker. This is telling me he knows only a little about video editing.

nofearman does not really need a sophisticated video editor from his explanation. Firstly, black bars on top and bottom tell me his video is not filling the frame. That is why you will get black bars on top or bottom.

Usually the video dimensions are not in the proper size for whatever reason. The proper size being 1080p or 720p which is usually standard nowadays. To get rid of the bars top and bottom, he needs to change the size of his vertical dimensions to fill out the frame. His vertical dimension needs to be 1920px for 1080p or 1280px for 720p. If he does that, he should not see black bars on the top or bottom.

If that is his only problem then buying a new program won't do him any good because he needs to first understand the proper sizing. Now this size difference could be because of a number of things. It could be the camera he is using or he the video settings of an imported video he is using is different from the way his program is set up.

If he is happy with Windows Movie Maker and that is his only problem then fix the vertical size of the video and he should be happy. Most of the other video programs are overkill for many anyways.

For example, I use Premiere Pro, Camtasia and Screenflow. Premiere Pro is way overkill for many simple tasks. I rather use Camtasia or Screenflow.

I am surprised you wouldn't get that right away since you use After Effects, which is way overkill for most.

Hope I explained it better, bro. hmmm??

        Yep...

There's the people that do and the people that don't

I've got to remember when I'm next running a product launch to specify "NO BLACK BARS"

It amazes me how many people look for solutions when they have one in their hands but just fail to understand basics.

Black bars top and bottom or left and right, mean you don't have your video dimensions right. Has nothing to do with the program. Your dimensions are configured so that the program needs to fill in the non-used space with black.

      1080p needs to be 1920x1080
      720p - 1280x720

Try Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015, more affordable, even though there is some learning curve, but the outcome is brilliant.. For screen recording, I prefer My Screen Recorder by Deskshare.

I currently use Sony Movie Studio 11, Camtasia 8.x, and Corel Video Studio X8

I just recently added Video Studio X8 to my arsenal.

I really like it, very fast and has a LOT of features.

Currently, if you are in the market, for under $50 you can get Corel Video Studio X8 Ultimate on Amazon right now. It's been on sale, I think I paid $45 or so.

The Ultimate version comes with a ton of add-ons that really add value.

Dollar for dollar, one of the best values in video editors right now, given the price you can get for it right now.

This actually depends on your level as a video editor and your purpose in editing videos. If you are an internet marketer creating videos for your business or for your clients,' then I would say Camtasia, or Screenflow are the ones I recommend. But if you want to go more advanced, then go for Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas/Final Cut Pro and Adobe After Effects.

koolphoto is correct. Black bars (also called Pillar Boxes) has NOTHING to do with the video editing software.

It is because the video is not edited & produced in a widescreen format (called a 16x9 Aspect Ratio) and the video player being used to view it is a widescreen format.

This is a nice free video editor right here:

I use Sony Movie Studio and it's about fifty bucks on Steam now and again when sales come up. I think I paid around $100 but it was a physical copy that came with a ton of bonuses in software, plugins and extras.
