I need help getting my customers to post reviews

I have no idea how to get my customers to post reviews, I don't want to email them but posting in our announcements never works. I just want to get over the 50 hump and with tens of thousands of customers I can even get close.

    You won't get reviews unless you ask. Send a newsletter out asking for reviews 'if they' thought the product/ content was good enough.

    Are you using a specific ecommerce solution?

    We use a couple of modules with our sites that firstly sends a automated "just checking you got your product" email.

    In that email we let them know we'll be asking for a review in a few days.

    The review email goes out 5 days later and there would be around a 20% response rate.

    The review happens all in their email with a simple star rating and add a comment box. No having to complicate things or visit a site etc.

    Every 4 or 5 star review gets an automated followup with a unique coupon valid for 30 days.

    We do run the emails though an outbound filter service to minimise deliverability and spam issues and the reviews come in every day.

    Once or twice a week a staff member goes through the reviews and activates them to make them live.

    The system we use also CCs the review to our support team email so if there are any problems we can stay on top of them.

    We are using an open source system but the modules are paid extensions.
