I recently bought the 3-site version of InstaBuilder 2.0 for $77. The unlimited sites version was $97, but I didn't have the money and I only really wanted it for one site anyway.

So I installed it and liked it, so I replaced some other builders on a couple of other sites with IB 2.0. So far so good.

But then one of those sites I decided to go a completely different route and so I deactivated and removed the plugin. I had a newer site that I wanted to use it on, so I installed it and tried to activate.

I got an error saying that it couldn't activate. After a few emails to support, it turns out that their licensing system is such that if I upload and activate on a site, it becomes PERMANENTLY LOCKED to that site! If you have a 3-site license like I do, you can't deactivate/delete and then use on another site if you have activated on 3 sites already.

Personally, I've bought many plugins with limited site licenses and on EVERY SINGLE ONE you are able to delete/uninstall and then reactivate on another domain, as long as you don't go over the site limit. Since in every other case that I've experienced, I would think this would be something very simple to do. I don't know why InstaBuilder 2.0 does not license this way, as it is the most common and accepted practice among all of the reputable plugins from other vendors.

This is just a buyer beware, so that if you happen to buy a 3-site license, BE ABSOLUTELY SURE that you want to use it on that domain FOR LIFE. Because if you just want to test it out, or try to install it on a test domain, then that license is forever used up. I think this is not good business, but that's the way they do it. I am now stuck and can't use it on the domain that I want to, so I just want everyone to be aware so that they don't get stuck like I did.

p.s. I searched the salespage, TOS, Disclaimer, and every other place that they SHOULD put the licensing terms, but it is not mentioned anywhere, so that is why I just wanted to warn everyone here that is looking to buy it.

p.p.s. Personally, I like IB 2.0 and think it's a great product, but the licensing is the worst I've ever seen.

That's ridiculous. I purchased InstaBuilder 2.0 on launch and got the unlimited license, so I never realized this was a problem. Try contacting their support. Hopefully they can unlock the original domains.

I tried. They said no. Like I said, great product, but the most asinine licensing system I've ever seen. No other product I've purchased has something so stupid. I guess I can upgrade - it's only $20 to get unlimited. But crappy business practices for sure.
