Hello Warriors, I have a question. While I use VPS and Dedicated Servers, from amazing companies that have never let me down. These services cost me $300+ per month. And my clients will not be needing that any time soon, nor should they need to worry about the technicalities that running such servers involves. However, they are experiencing massive spikes in traffic, I'm talking around 100,000 unique search engine visitors per month (when they were getting only 1,000 or so). Therefore the bandwidth of their shared hosting simply can't take it, and it crashes or it slows down to unbearable speeds. I know most shared hosting promise unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth (which is bull****). That's why most people believe it's a great bang for the buck. But is there any shared hosting that can truly handle such levels of traffic without any issues? Or am I going to need to start teaching VPS also? Thanks a lot guys and gals, Dan Molano |

100,000 uniques per month.. I doubt any shared hosting could handle that if the site was anymore than a simple page of text. If these sites are Wordpress or anything that eats CPU, then forget about shared hosting. Maybe check out grid hosting (just as easy as shared), or a managed VPS. If you are tech-savvy, bare bones VPS offers some great deals, try Linode - Xen VPS Hosting. |

I just remember that shared hosting was so easy and intuitive to use. If I tell them to migrate to VPS they will go crazy (not because they can't afford it, but because of the learning curve). Is there at least something as intuitive and easy to use?

But I can see how those rankings could be easily manipulated if someone really wanted to be at the top. I need word from people that handle such levels of traffic as well.

| Shared Web Hosting - Premium web hosting with cPanel I use their small business package to host a site with 10,000+ uniques per day without any problems. The key is lightspeed http server which is what they use on their servers, it's much faster more stable than apache. |

You can't run 100k visitors on any shared hosting plan if it's Wordpress based. The MySQL usage will get the account shut down in most cases. Start preaching HTML or move them to VPS. Not much of a choice here. OR...get yourself a powerhouse server from ThePlanet or RackSpace and resell your server resources as "shared". Basically, become a host yourself. |

In my experience most shared hosting suppliers have an upgrade where you can get professional hosting.

In most cases, cPanel is what makes shared hosting so easy to use. You could install cPanel for your clients on any VPS, or you could find a VPS that has cPanel already included. ServInt - Managed VPS Hosting seems to be a favorite, but it starts at $49 per month. I'm sure you could find some better deals. Reselling, as BlueSquares suggested, could also be a good option.
