Are there any alternatives to amazon s3 that you can recommend?

What you want is called cloud hosting. There a bunch of other options but I can't compare. Haven't tested them before.

Some of the most common ones in the market:

I have not tried the others mentioned, however they all look similar in pricing to s3. however.... I currently use SimpleCDN and have been quite pleased. Starts you off at 3.9 cents per GB and goes down from there.
(i think amazon starts at 18 cents per GB - OUCH!)

Amazon S3 has been good for us...but...our last launch (niche blueprint)....the performance seemed to lag quite a bit. We put our sales page video and all the images on it to help the servers take the big initial traffic hit.

However...when we combined it with their cloud front service (we just used this for commission blueprint 2.0 launch)...the performance was nothing short of stunning!

NO slow downs during that crazy initial traffic period...quite amazing really.

Cloudfront is a replication/caching type of service that works seamlessly with the S3 buckets. It caches content on servers located all over the world. When a user requests content...it is retrieved from the nearest server. Seemed to help a LOT!

The new Titanium package that is approaching launch will include hosting for Video. It is included with this package. The 14day trial is only a buck. You could try it to see how it works for you.

  I guess this is not what the OP means. I've heard of Rackspace before, but I don't know if they are any good.
  
  Best is to spend a few bucks and try the different services before you use them for a real launch or other venture.
