StomperNet or SEOBrainTrust?

Any Stompers care to share their opinions? Andy Jenkins left, Jerry West left, Leslie Rohde and Dan Thies are starting their own thing also. In fact, Leslie and Dan are describing the new StomperNet as a membership site with tools and a speakers bureau... not as much training focused as it used to be.

Any thoughts from (former) Stompers?

In terms of delivering a practical education, there are some advantages to StomperNet having their own set of tools.

Rodney Trotter's WYSIWYG Taguchi testing software as an example, branded as StomperStorm, is a really excellent tool. It's a lot easier to teach people how to do split testing when you can teach the theory and then show the application on a tool that every member has access too.

The business model had to change, in order to support larger numbers of members. A quarter of the price means that you need (more than) four times as many customers, right?

We spent all of 2009 working on the technology platform to make that big move even a remote possibility, because the old portal just couldn't handle the numbers. New systems were needed to make the mastermind coaching work (and StomperNet has some really good coaches), to support the local meetups, and all that stuff.

Formula5 was the first course deployed on the new platform, and it was awesome. Even the new StomperNet member portal doesn't stretch the technology's capabilities like F5 does. The "My.StomperNet" site we rolled out in April supports over 20,000 "Stomping the Search Engines 2" customers and Net Effect subscribers.

What StomperNet is doing now is really the next logical step in growing the business to support more people. Some things are changing, for sure, and they still have to execute well on the plan that they have, but I think a lot of people are going to be real happy with what they get.

Never been a member of StomperNet, but I'm always impressed with Dan Thies and Leslie Rohde. Some of the software in the new SN sounds cool, but but there is some comparable stuff available for free (TrafficTravis, TubeMogul, etc.)

They're messing with a lot of people's heads by rolling out their own program just as StomperNet re-launches. Is it worthwhile to stick with StomperNet, given their reputation? Or should we go with SEOBrainTrust knowing these guys were a huge part of StomperNet's success?

      Decisions, decisions.

Some people will find both valuable enough to justify doing both, others will find one thing suits them better. We realize there may be some confusion or indecision. Leslie & I are going to make sure you can take our thing for a test drive without stretching your wallet... so folks can try both and see which they want to keep, or if they'd rather give them both a pass.
