Best product on building backlinks

Hi im currently in the stages of building a network of backlinks to my sites. Im just going after the popular article directory's, and web 2.0 properties.

One of the products on the topic of linking building which was very informative, and had step by step guide on how to naturally build links called: Top Linking Secrets.

Good product, but there system for link building methods costs money and they upsell so many 'extra' services and other products.

I was after a inexpensive approach, and looking for a product which offers a structured plan on where to build links and when (to keep natural)

So can anyone recommend me a product with a linking build step by step guide?
