Just wondering if anyone could offer a recommendation in this case. I'd really appreciate it.
I’m going to start building a mailing list in a particular niche, but I’m having trouble deciding which autoresponder service to go with. I’ve used both Aweber and Getresponse and prefer the Aweber interface. I was all set to go with Aweber, but then saw a lot of posts here complaining that their delivery rate has been really bad recently and Getresponse’s is better. So, if Getresponse has a better delivery rate than Aweber and allows single opt-in, I'll choose them. Thing is I really don’t want to use double opt-in. I’ve heard so many reports of 5% to 15% confirmation rates that it seems like such a waste. (Plus this: Is Confirmed Opt-in Crucifying Your E-mail Marketing Profits? | The Total Package) As I understand, Aweber allows single opt-in (as long as you don’t change it to double, in which case you can’t go back) and it seems Getresponse does, too (per this article: Email Marketing Tips - Blog GetResponse Blog Archive Why You Should Choose Confirmed Opt-In). I looked at Mailchimp, but I'm presuming (perhaps wrongly) their delivery rate can’t really compare to the “big boys'” and they require double opt-in, so they’re the last choice. The niche is youngish, but not composed of IMers, so they may never have seen double opt-in before. I’ll be giving away a 52-page ebook, promoted with a “sales letter” on the opt-in page, so hopefully that would encourage people to actually confirm if I were to use double opt-in. I don’t want to be forced into it, though. Thanks for your help. |

Double opt in works as your protection, You may be considered a spammer if people use someone else's email.
On the other hand it's a one step more between you and your customer. But still those who really want to receive stuff from you will confirm the subscription. Let them clearly know that they can opt out at any time. |

David,
Thanks for your reply. I know what you mean about the spam-protection, but I'm thinking in this niche, single opt-in might still be better. Just judging from what I've read. In any case, I think I'll probably go with Getresponse. Mostly I need to get off the fence and get to work! |
