Merchants: Clickbank vs. Plimus

I've been using Plimus awhile for some forex, pokerchips, MLM & a handful of other projects. They are especially strong if you are managing multiple products or a catalog of products. They recently implemented 1 click upsells and it works well with similar niche offers from their network of vendors. Subscription products are super easy to set-up / maintain. Recruiting & managing affiliates is easy in their control panel & you have access to all their contact info. Reporting & payments are solid & they recently implemented 3rd party tracking by adding a simple parameter string. Transaction fee's are typically 4.5 - 10% depending on pricepoint.

As a software purchaser Plimus is a pain in the butt.. I've always had to wait for 'approval' before the software was delivered. In all three cases I used Plimus I had to email and/or phone them to get the software I bought.

I think you'll find Plimus is not as easy to work with as Clickbank. It's been a long time since I signed up with Plimus (I don't use it anymore), but back then if I recall correctly, you had to sell quite a bit of product to get the interest rate below 10%.

There are two things you must know before deciding on Clickbank vs Plimus.

1. Since it does have an affiliate network, exactly who is responsible for affiliates. If they screw up and send out spam or misleading ads, am I responsible, or is Plimus?

Also, since the IRS requires documentation of affiliate income via 1099's, again who is responsible?

2. Does your state require you to charge tax for online sales to state residents? If so, who handles that?

The reason I stick with clickbank is they handle all of that for me, so it limits my headaches, and reduces my paperwork and filing requirements demonstrably.

Unless you're an accounting whiz, and don't mind handling spam issues, it would be very wise on your part to keep these issues in mind when selecting a payment processor.

Lest you fail to believe me, just go ask Mike Filesame what can happen when you mishandle these issues. He was shut down for a spamming affiliate a couple of years ago, and got lit up by the IRS for millions due to lack of documentation regarding affiliate income.

Also, keep in mind if your state requires collection of sales tax, unless a third party such as clickbank collects that for you, it's up to you to get with your state and make sure you're doing it right. Failure to do that may entitle you to a stay at the greybar hotel if you get my drift.

Ive just transfered some of my products to plimus instead of Clickbank.

But I have to agree with Dennis.
Plimus is not as straight forward as Clickbank. It takes a little longer to get the hang of it.
But on the good side you have alot more options!
Alot of different ways to be paid, you can sell mulitple products from different websites and such....

So far, I love it.....

Plimus rip you off! You end up paying around 15% of your profit to them in sales fee, withdrawal fees and some other stuff! Would advise anything but not Plimus.
