Hey Lloyd,

Yeah, I know it's from our forum, but what was missing in most cases were our responses to what some of our members were saying... so, I figured I'd clear it up here since non-members can't see our forum.

I've been using MadMimi for a couple years now, no complaints here. I also have a Wordpress Plugin that will sync your users list with your MadMimi audience, and give you the option of having all users leaving a comment on your site opt-in to your mad mimi list.
Plugins - BigTie! for Wordpress & MadMimi - CodeCanyon

I have to say i use listwire and it's pretty good. I would encourage anyone to give it a try within the IM niche.

I'm not doubting your statement... I'm just kind of shocked.

I tried them - didn't like them. Didn't like their web form. Didn't like the organization or lack thereof, had some difficulty with their terminology and navigating the site. And, the whole screaming chimp thing was annoying when I was really trying to get something done...

What would the Mailchimp people expect you to use their autoresponders for, if not some kind of marketing? I'm curious.

mmmm maybe real businesses selling real products to their customers

  • Illegal goods or services
  • Escort and dating services
  • Pharmaceutical products
  • Get-rich-quick or work-at-home schemes
  • Online trading, day trading tips, or stock market related content
  • Gambling services, products or gambling education

I guess they're more about actual straight up newsletters? Like the bi-monthly roundup of over 70's lawn bowls action, or something...
After that, what's even left? ahh maybe
dentists, doctors , lawyers, computer repair guys, mechanics,
sign writers , printers, restauarants etc, etc, etc
heck , just about any(if not all) of those offline businesses that are falling over themselves to hand out wads of cash to IMers , 'cause IMers are just so coool .....
seriously - I often recommend them to small businesses - being free up to
2000 subscribers makes them ideal for a small business - many who do very well with a customer list that small
and the reason they are trusted and hence good for small business?
'cause they don't allow all the above

Absolutely couldn't agree more.

Loads of iffy ebooks; several assumptive videos etc., and they still don't help the newbie get started!

No - for that you have to attend one of their 'webinars' (at 3am UK time).

Pehaps if they spent more time finding out what new clients need, and less programming an irritating ape theme, they'd do better.

Recently dumped Mailchimp for ListWire. So far so good.

I'll suport Gary on this (sorry Alexa). He's seen a niche in the AR sector and stepped in - nothing wrong with that at all. The product's pretty good (although I'd like to see some enhancements,updates/evolutions Gary), and IT WORKS!

I receive a lot of comms from people who REALLY can't afford to fork out month after month before they see a return. People who need to make the little savings which could help set them on the path to success. THIS HELPS THEM.

I suppose if Mr Ace started a free lifetime domain name registrar and free lifetime domain hosting service which involved a bit of advertising, you wouldn't be interested? (That's not a challenge Gary).

One problem with ListWire. Fitting the optin on a single blog sidebar! Can't find the answer anywhere.

Seems like you're constantly fighting your corner for ListWire Gary. I run a blog dedicated to people starting in IM on a 'vapors' budget (or zilch). Although I review alternatives, I always recommend ListWire for the really cash strapped. But not only them!
I took Alexa Smith to task in another thread when she glibly said "Nobody NEEDS a free autoresponder". I don't think she's speaking to me now.
There are many arguments for a GOOD autoresponder service. I replied to her saying "How about if I post this question", "How long have you been paying for an autoresponder service and still haven't made a dime?" I think the answers might be interesting, don't you?

There's a lot more to it but I won't repeat myself.
hang in there.

The Wordpress sidebar issue is answered a good 20 times, or more, in the members forum... just give a quick search there and you'll have your answer.

iContact offer an option to have the first 500 subscribers free, so good option if you're starting out and don't want to break the bank.

Interesting information on Mail Chimp...

The thing I'm most interested in is how it seems to me that they make all their free subs violate their own terms of use. I say this because one of the requirements on a free plan is that you include their little logo and enroll in their 'Monkey Rewards' program which gives you credit for Mailchimp services.

You can promote your own products and all sorts of things with mail chimp. They just don't want the WF style of internet marketers who do nothing but flood their list with junk after crap after junk. Sending out affiliate links to your list is profitable but it's also bottom feeder marketing.

Step away from internet marketing forums and websites and take a look at the big picture.
I know lots of people that have been using Mailchimp to promote their own "bricks and Mortar" business and they are doing very well with their subscribers.
